Travel

Hi from Havertown!

November 27, 2024

This is the first year we’ve traveled to Philadelphia with the kids for Thanksgiving maybe . . .EVER?! (Not entirely sure that’s true, but it might be which is pretty wild!).

(Thanksgiving is just a huge holiday in Josh’s family and we obviously live much closer, so our plans are usually pretty simple and do not involve travel).

BUTTTT my parents are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary and asked us to come up to celebrate the occasion, so here we are! I was excited to see that there are still some colorful leaves left. FALL! It’s really the only season I “miss” in South FL.

Few pix:

C under a gorgeous Japanese maple, inappropriately dressed (it was high 50s though!)
airport breakfast of champions! Palm Beach International did not disappoint. Super chill, not too crowded, easy parking.

(PBI is an hour away vs FLL at 30 minutes and ~45+++ min to MIA, depending on traffic. And, tickets are often cheaper. I didn’t figure this out until about a year ago!)

We picked up packets for the Turkey Trot 5K on Thursday (Laura is running it too!). The weather does not look great. Ahh well. (I can’t really complain about heat for months and then come up and complain about rain, lol. Or can I?)

I ran into someone at the expo and assumed it would be someone I knew from growing up here, but it was a blog reader! (HI L if you are reading this!). That was fun and exciting.

Finally, YES we did go to Ben Folds on Sunday night and it was a lot of fun!

He sounded great and my GODDDD he can still play the piano. Listening brought back major memories, from college favorites to the song Josh and I danced to at our wedding (The Luckiest). We got home at ~11:30 and I absolutely DID NOT get enough sleep that night, because I completed my last big speed workout of the training cycle the next morning and headed to work after that! (AND THEN the next day featured a 3:45 AM wakeup because of our early flight). But I survived and feel it was worth it.

(I slept a lot on the plane and again last night!)

ON THE DOCKET FOR TODAY:

  • Run with a Strava friend + Josh (first time meeting her IRL)
  • Bake rum cake (Josh’s request; we will also be having pie but my mom made those)
  • Moana 2 with my sister + M (almost-5-yo niece)
  • Some writing time sandwiched in there
  • Nice dinner out to celebrate my parents’ 50th!

Happy almost Thanksgiving!

PS: I had the pleasure of recording a LIVE Patreon with Laura!! This is always fun. Wanted to alert anyone interested in attending our yearly Mini Goal Setting/Visioning Workshop that it will be happening live on December 19th. We’re also in the process of curating monthly topics for 2025, and we take requests! You can join us for $9/month at patreon.com/bestofbothworldspod – our meetups are generally very light, fun, and are a chance to discuss all kinds of parenting/work/life topics in a nice environment.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, Sarah! Have fun at the turkey trot tomorrow. It was supposed to rain here too, but looks like we might luck out and miss the rain. Fingers crossed. We are also going to see Moana 2 also. It’s been a while since I got excited about a new movie and I hope it’s good! Enjoy the cooler weather and time with family <3

Have fun at the turkey trot. That weather is BAD, though. A cold rain is rough! It will be pretty cold here for my 10k tomorrow morning. Probably around 20F, hopefully not windy! But burr…

Have fun celebrating your parents 50th! Mine hit that milestone 5 years ago in December. We all gathered in Jan 2020…. Little did we know how our world was about to change! 50th is a HUGE milestone so congrats to them. We also hired a photographer for that gathering. That was the last time we had family photos for my massive family. Hard to imagine when we will all be together again as we are pretty spread out!

So glad Ben was so great! I would love to see him again!!

How fun! My parents had their 50th a few summers ago. It’s quite a marital milestone!

Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and that the weather magically improves. It’s so cool you get to run alongside Laura <3

Yes, I could tell you’re not in Florida!!! And, I would complain plenty about 44 degrees and rain for a race.
It sounds like you have a great day planned- have fun!!!

Ermmmmm … how is it possible that Ben Folds looks this this old?! That is telling me something about my own age and and appearance I don’t necessarily want to hear!.

Glad that you had an amazing time. Ben Folds is so nostalgic for my university years too, which makes sense as we are about the same age. Ben folds five was popular in my country of England, and I think of that song often as I distinctly remember thinking why does Ben Folds say “fight a battle of who could care less” because in England it’s always “couldn’t care less” (which makes more sense to me at least). I was just so confused by this lyric until i moved to the US and lived here for over 15 years and realized you guys say both ways!

Ha!!! Well, he’s 58. We looked it up. He was early 30s then 25 years ago when I remember seeing him most frequently!!! Yes it is kind of bittersweet but he definitely can still sing and play.

Lived in Jupiter for ~5 years and we loved PBI! Big enough to be useful but small enough to be easy. There used to be a putting green in one of the terminals; not sure if it’s still there.

Yeah for 50th anniversaries! And for hanging out with your podcast partner for a holiday! Super cool. I hope the rain abates for the run and that you have a great time.
