Sept 1: Updates, hurricane report, and perhaps the start of a streak

September 1, 2019

1- I had an idea that perhaps I would blog daily for this month.

2- I did not plan on a hurricane/tropical storm/etc. It has been quite the roller coaster over the past ~5 days or so. First we were staying in the hospital; then staying home with shutters, then without (everyone said it was heading north!), and then – we panicked at the 11th hour and spent the last 5 hours putting up shutters.

(Which is HARD WORK! Especially the 2nd floor which was 98% Josh. We have those corrugated aluminum ones – the cheapest and most annoying kind to put up. That’s what we get for living in a rental I guess).

view from the roof during Operation Shutters. I was not terribly thrilled to be up there.

3- While putting up the shutters I decided we will be hiring someone else to take them down (worth it).

4- I also spent a lot of time jealous of the neighbors with hurricane windows.

5- Tonight I will order my 2020 Hobonichi!! I am getting a Cousin (duh) and hopefully the cover of my choice (to be revealed when it arrives . . . guesses welcome). I am not going to get the 5 year book. I already have 87423 notebooks and I don’t want to have pressure to write in another one for 5 years. Too daunting 🙂

my insta post was excited today

WELL. 1 more day of call, and hopefully it will be safe to drive to work (and if not . . .well, I’ll figure something out or I guess the hospitalists would cover).

I am hoping that posting for 30 days might bring about some more interesting and random topics, much like the 100 Dreams list makes you dig deep into some perhaps small but precious desires.

(I can’t believe I used to blog daily for years! How did I do that!?!)

Good luck with the hurricane! I’ll be hoping the worst passes you guys by.

Also, how did you do daily blogging for years? Was it pre-kids, by any chance? If so, I think you have your answer. 😉

PS: should have also mentioned how much I hope you complete your post a day challenge! I, for one, will love reading daily posts. ☺️

hahaha – yes. It was. And I guess I already knew that!

Serious question – Why are you putting shutters up on a rental? Isn’t that the owners responsibility?

Our house is owned by a company (Invitation Homes) and they have in the contract that they are not responsible (though they also do not require the renter to do it either!). I guess true devastation is so unlikely it’s not worth the cost of them doing that service?
