Weekend

Weekend / New Week

October 14, 2019

We had a half-Staycation / half-normal (nonworking) weekend. Our nanny dropped the kids off at 8am on Sunday as planned — we had two (!) kid-free nights and days, and that was about right.

It was a nice treat — we went out to dinner Friday night, did projects around the house, and cooked on Saturday night. I finally bought new running shoes (AND socks, AND a tank, AND a sports bra). Oh! And we dealt with house-related stuff, as we are in the process of going under contract! (Wish us luck there — I feel like we deserve a smooth process at this point after 10 months on the market!).

Yesterday I took G to MyGym, supervised a playdate, and cleaned up the kitchen about 395734 times (at least, that’s what it felt like). It was a nice day. I am, however, looking forward to the end of basketball season when we can more easily do a family outing.

this girl loves MyGym (which is funny because she used to kind of rebel and do her own thing, and now she throws herself wholeheartedly into every activity)

Workouts:

M – nothing

T – 4.2 mi run, not sure of pace because strava was acting up!

W – BB 21DF Dirty 30, 8 and 12 lb weights

R – 3.3 mi, also strava problems, b/c my splits say mile 1 16:59, mile 2 9:58, mile 3 10:19, 0.2 mi 9:11. We’ll just say ~10:00/mi.

F – BB 21DF Upper. 8 and 12 lb weights. Total pushups: 29 on toes / 17 on knees

S – First “long” run of half training! 5.07 mi, 10:14/mi ave. Done a little later in the morning so it was 83F. Felt good!

S – BB 21DF Pilates

This week is going to be complex. I am on call (starting tomorrow) and am anxious to make it a GOOD call week — it’s actually my last ‘real’ call week of the year, which is exciting! I am going to work very hard at being positive and calm when my phone buzzes. Thinking about Atomic Habits, maybe I should pair the sound of my pager with eating a chocolate morsel or something 🙂

I have really tried to look forward and plan each day, though, and my mantra is going to be “I HAVE ENOUGH TIME.” Because I do. After today, it’s going to be a work-focused week, and I’m rested enough that this should be a welcome shift.

me cooking chicken under a brick (Milk Street recipe, which means it was involved, but it turned out really well!)
on night two served to kids with saffron jeweled rice (it also had pistachios and dried cranberries – delicious). Annabel tolerated this meal somewhat. G seemed to like it but at least half of it went on the floor. C ate bread I think.

Our very exciting dinner plan:

M – salmon / rice / some kind of veg (Annabel vetoed sweet potatoes)

T – taco night (taco salads / bowls)

W – leftovers

R – broccoli-chevre soup from Run Fast Eat Slow & bread (kids love this soup, or at least they did historically – you never know these days)

F – leftovers

S – out

S – pizza delivery

I’m laughing at your commentary on the meal because it is so true! Kids are unpredictable and also never appreciate a carefully crafted meal. If I spend time on something it’s almost guaranteed they won’t love it (what?! It’s Mac and cheese guys, seriously!) sounds like a well planned week and yay on your first long run checked off! I’m debating a local half in December myself… might just go for it. And the new gear is a great motivator!!

    Congratulations on the house!

I got Dylan to eat a leaf of spinach last week by threatening to take away her iPad time. She make gagging sounds the entire time. Parenting win!
