We actually decided mid morning, but I feel even more confident with our decision now in this world where the NBA is suspended, my alma maters (Williams and Duke!) have both sent students home, and Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have COVID19.
I am also hoping we can ramp up our telemedicine capabilities quickly at work. Would be a good way to care for many patients that could end up being the new temporary norm for a while.
I guess we will see.

Hi Sarah, I read you from Italy. Here everything’s closed. It seems incredible to me that other countries can see what’s happening here and don’t even try to protect their citizens. I agree with other commenters: cancel any unnecessary trip. Buy protective equipment. Insist on telemedicine. Insist on everything to be done remotely, if possible. Avoid social gatherings. Canceling gatherings of over 250 people is not enough. In Italy, 4 people is already considered too much. It’s a matter of 2-3 weeks, and if everything is closed down the virus slows down. In the beginning I also felt distracted and scared. Now it’s our new normal. In the grand scheme of things, 1 month is a blip.
So glad the decision is made! I really don’t think you’ll regret this long-term!
I would have made the same decision. Glad you feel at peace! I know it’s disappointing to miss out on time with your sister and her family – especially that new baby! But social distancing is so important to ‘flatten the curve’. I hope you can still have a fun staycation as a family!
I am with you! Grappling with whether to keep my 3yo home from Montessori (we are in Minnesota) and my 72yo mom (with ch medical issues including asthma) picks her up and babysits till my hubbie and just I get home from work…
