Best Laid Plans Weekend

BLP Ep#35: Day Designer, Villa BeauTIFFul, and Photo Sticker Printer

March 22, 2021

Hi!

I am writing this on Sunday and we are on the back end of a lovely weekend. Josh is on call, but the weather has been amazing and we have spent a lot of time outside. Daily blueprint was:

AM workout

Outdoor outing (strawberry picking on Saturday w friends, Flamingo Gardens today!) in obscenely nice 70-75F temps and what felt like zero humidity (though I’m sure it wasn’t). I guess this is why Californians are motivated to stay there.

Just getting started . . .
that fresh strawberry smell!
From the Gardens because I couldn’t leave Annabel out. Note: G’s hair long enough to put a braid in it! When did that happen!?

Video game time (I am writing this during that segment)

Outdoor walk (mandatory, sorry kids!)

Dinner (sushi takeout yesterday, making salmon miso bowls tonight — a bit redundant I guess but whatever)

Bed (thankfully all Daylight Savings issues seem to have resolved quickly. Spring Forward is much easier for our family than Fall Back, or maybe everyone is just . . . growing up)

OH!! Also, on Sunday my dad was on the NPR Puzzler segment! For the second time! And he rocked it! Now I kind of want to try . . .

EPISODE NOTES & PIX

Day Designer

First: Day Designer. (Note: this is an affiliate link, so if you purchase I will receive a small commission. I decided to sign up because I really like this product and figured that seemed like a reasonable thing to do. Unfortunately, they didn’t show any discount codes but if they do I will share!)

Day Designer is launching their July-June planner (with new, very pretty covers) but the real reason I became interested in trying this planner was because reader/listener Lesley was kind enough to send it to me! It did not work out for her, but it is currently getting a second life on my desk (and in this post).

Notes: 2 sizes (classic and mini; the one shown that I have is the mini); monthly and daily pages ONLY (no week spreads); ~4cm diameter gold O-rings. Previous cost $49 – $59 (price for this launch does not seem to be up yet).

Pix!

PEN TEST. Paper is not smudgy and writes nicely.
BACK OF THE PAGE – note there is some bleed through with the brush pens / clean color dot. I’ve also seen some intermittent bleeding with Mildliners. No show through from the pens though!

Villa BeauTIFFul Pens

Sparkly!!!

These beautiful pens are fancy and fun. They have a gel ink tha this thicker than what I prefer but some may love it. They feel weighty and nicely crafted and come in a million pretty colors.

I am not an affiliate, but Myra from Planners & Wine is, so if you would like to check VB out, you can support her and use her code for a $5 coupon here.

Photo Sticker Printer

This is my new favorite totally frivolous (but fun) thing!!!! I have this one (non-affiliate link). It’s the Kodak Step 2 x 3 Photo Printer. The photos are all sticker-backed and are 2″ x 3″ . You can add filters, little graphics, etc — it all connects to your phone via an app and I found it fairly easy to use.

I bought mine for about $60 on Amazon; a pack of the stickers to print on runs $25 for 50.

Here are some stickers shown in my 5-year journal:

Pic of A’s very first sleepover
C’s last soccer game of the season

The day planner does look super tempting. I don’t think I want to switch my system up right now, but I’ll have to file this away for later.

Agree with Sam, that daily layout looks super useful! And the stickers are so fun!

Thank you fir sharing on the sticker printer. I’ve had one in my Amazon cart for quite some time but I was hoping to hear a review from someone I know before blindly buying it. I’m going to change it up and get the one you have! I figure with baby #3 coming in August it will be an easy way to capture memories in a sleep deprived fog. (Side note, we found out it’s a GIRL and after two boys I’m thrilled!!!)

Love the look of the Day Designer, this is basically what I put in my notebook when planning my day anyway but nice to have it all laid out. Perfect timing as I’m heading back to work after mat leave soon so want a daily instead of weekly spread again. I’m very tempted to purchase. Only problem is the link doesn’t seem to work? I tried from two browsers but no luck.

I heard that Puzzler segment on Sunday while I was out grocery shopping! I did it along with him in the car. It was a good one and he did indeed rock it!

The affiliate link isn’t working. I think I’m going to get a mini one!

I went back and listened to the Puzzler. Your Dad was great! It was a good one, too.
