Commenter YS mentioned Sydney Cummings yesterday and I was intrigued, so I tried out her first Summertime Fine 3.0 workout today (link below — her workouts are all FREE on YouTube; you subscribe/pay extra if you want access to a Facebook Group + monthly workout calendars).
Anyway, I cannot give a full review after one workout obviously, but I was impressed! It definitely had some similarities to BB but a) it’s not an MLM and b) her personality was lovely. This 30 minute HIIT was divided into 5 circuits and went by quickly.
Of course after writing my post yesterday I had one of my best threshold runs (increased speed AND enjoyed it!) so I’m not ready to give up my running training. But maybe instead of 4 runs/2 strength I’ll make it 3 + 3. Or 4 + 3 (but realistically I almost always end up taking at least one day off).
ANYWAY! Yesterday was a decent day. I accomplished everything on my list. There were some nice moments (and some hard moments!) with the kids. We did manage to swim for about an hour in the afternoon before thunder rumbled. And there was pizza.
I am playing with a new daily spread from a Kyoto-based company, andstudium. Technically this is a study planner, but I saw more potential! I ordered mine here (Honeypress NC — small NC-based business!). Review coming to BLP soon!
My Full Focus (<– affiliate link) is almost finished + I was going to try out Simplified but cannot bring myself to actually use it. It’s so pretty and I love the cover, but just too big for my purposes because I also need to carry around my EC. I don’t need my daily to have a year’s worth of pages and I really don’t love split weekends (or pre-filled in Sunday tasks). SO. Enter the above (tiny, slim) book instead that I bought on a whim to try out! I don’t LOOOOVE the paper texture but it’s workable. More details to come on BLP!
TODAY
? Playground
Take A to her BFF’s pool party
Pack camp bags
Make lunch x 2
Put week up on our whiteboard
Bit more pod prep stuff
Side note: Organize 365 is running a free 5-day Back to School Blitz – videos air next week (though I think will still be available later) and there are printable to help you prioritize for the season. Thought those who were interested in OG365 but not ready to fully invest might want to check it out – the printables look useful! (Our kids go back to school in ~3 weeks. AHH!)

Oooo, that OG365 Blitz looks interesting! I go back to school as an employee on Friday (yes, in July!) and my son goes back 8/12, so great timing. I’ve been doing a *lot* of pondering of our routines. Last year was all reactive and I desperately need something more organized and proactive.
Another YouTube trainer you may want to try is Caroline Given –

I’ve been following her 10 week Epic Heat program and it’s great. Each week is 5 x 30 minute workouts, 3 targeting specific muscle groups, 1 full body and 1 HIIT style. You can definitely modify it to fit your weekly schedule but I love the challenging and effective 30 minute workouts that are all available free on YouTube. Also, no talking during the workouts!
I love her too!
I have been religiously doing her Epic Heat program as well, love her!!
I am trying to decide between trying this and Sydney! Have you tried both and if so what are the main differences?
Carol Girvan gives all instructions at the beginning and then the rest is music with alarms to notify of interval changes. Sydney is a lot chattier and I don’t remember there being much music. Maybe a little bit in the background. It’s a preference thing- whether you like chatty instructors vs music with interval notifications. I much prefer listening to music than chatter, so I prefer Carol. However, they are both pretty charming and very strong!
Thanks so much! I think I am going to start w Sydney – I don’t mind chatty 🙂 and she seems slightly less intimidating!
I want to figure out if I can do summertime fine with 2 runs / week. Maybe skip the cardio/abs day? Or just wishful thinking that I’d have enough energy? Hmmmmm……
(Having complex and ambitious workout goals is apparently part of my pandemic coping mechanism.)
Fitness Blender is another great YouTube training option. The workouts are free and I appreciate the variety in lengths and workout styles. https://www.fitnessblender.com/
My kids go back in 1 week. And still no masks required. To say I’m panicking is an understatement.
Do you ever do a double (i.e. a run with some strength later on in the day)? I’ve done a few of these lately, and feel like they help a lot. Just add 10 minutes of weights or core — in your abundant spare time, obviously! I did a double today, and it was hard, but I’m glad I did it. That could help you reach your goal of 3+3 or 4+3. Also, you are going to find yourself with more time as your kiddos get older, I am sure of it.
Rarely because most of my runs are 40-55 min and then I have to get to work. (And have zero desire to work out any non morning time … if I recall I think you are the opposite and prefer later!)
Haha! For your information I did 10 min of legs yesterday morning before I went into the OR for work. 😜
strong work 🙂 🙂
if you can do mornings perhaps I can force myself to do evenings . . .
