Survived!

September 14, 2021

WELL. That was A WEEK.

I am trying to put my life back together today, because I certainly let all possible loose ends get very loose over the past 7 days. I took care of a lot of patients and did all essential work activities and there was room for very little else.

(Although somehow I did watch all of LuLaRich, which was the perfect little escape after a Saturday spent in the hospital. Recommend.)

I did get rewarded by a little pot of gold at the end of the rainbow . . . today turned out to be HOBONICHI ARRIVAL DAY!

The mina perhonen “jardin” cover is luscious. I love it! I also purchased my first English A6 and my first Weeks.

I will be back tomorrow and hopefully more coherent.

I am not thrilled with my attitude this past week BUT I think I did a good job with my clinical duties and that is probably more important. Thankfully I do not have another full call week until Christmas week.

(Which will be . . . festive. In its own way!)

I received a survey from Hobonichi (anyone else receive this?) and in it mentioned you, your blog, and/or podcast more than once ❤️

I’ve been pondering your call/childcare situation and it sounds so difficult to manage three kids while taking call while your spouse is also not home. So, I guess I just wanted to say if it feels hard to you, that’s because it is! If I were you I would look into getting extra childcare for those weeks. I know it is a pain to arrange it in the first place, but if you could bring in a college student maybe to help with homework and bedtimes on those nights it would make your life so much easier and the kids would probably find a new person fun and entertaining. On nights when you don’t have extra help I would definitely not take away screen time as a punishment, because that is just making your life harder. If anything I would let them earn extra screen time for the next night by their behavior one night. So for every phone call they are quiet and well-behaved on Tuesday, they get an extra 5 minutes or 15 minutes or whatever you think is fair on Wednesday. A little extra screen time on call weeks will not hurt anyone long term. If you need a punishment, I would consider separating them – like they all have to go to a separate room from each other and from you if they can’t be quiet. Not sure if any of those ideas are helpful to you, but thought I’d share just in case! If it’s not helpful, feel free to ignore the advice part and just accept my affirmation that this is hard and you are doing a good job!

You are probably right – my hesitancy is having another body to manage (hire, what if they cancel, etc). Another option is to try to have our nanny come late + stay late each night. I couldn’t do that this time around because my call week moved and I ended up having a bunch of early AM meetings.

My Christmas call that won’t be an option either BUT our favorite college aged babysitter should be back in town and I am hoping to have her work for us that week!

Glad you survived, well done! I was getting a bit worried when a few extra days went by without a blog post, glad all is ok and your Hobinichi has arrived- enjoy!!! Looking forward to hearing how you find the English A6 🙂

I was worried too; glad you survived and happy to hear you have a relatively spacious break before the next one.

Hope you get a chance to recuperate over the next few days/weekend…and glad you got to fit in a little binge watching – it can really help.

I really wanted to love the LuLaRich, but thought it was just ok. I have seen too many MLM documentaries I guess. They are all the same. And no matter how many docs are made and how much info is out there about MLMs, people STILL view it as an “investment” or a “business opportunity.” After a while, it becomes willful ignorance almost…frustrating.
