OMG HOBONICHI!!!!!!!

Graphic from the Preview Site!

When I posted yesterday, I hadn’t seen this update — but here it is!

So many of you have been interested in Hobonichi but intimidated by the Japanese language aspect. This much-awaited and wished-for version is so exciting! I never minded the Japanese, but I will 100% be ordering the English Cousin to check out. Even the slightly larger gridlines (4mm vs 3.7mm) are to be celebrated!

OMG MIGRAINES

My migraines seem to be back with a vengeance after nearly disappearing for ~3 months. And I received a phone call that the appointment I scheduled at least 4 months ago for late August is . . . cancelled!? #(#*&$. Hopefully I will not have to wait 4 months for the reschedule.

Some of the headaches have been hormonal this time around but I think they are also very linked to my eating habits (particularly not going overboard with carbs/sugar). And sleep. Alcohol is also a trigger, but I think I’ve had two drinks total in the last month so I can’t blame that. I attempted to work on that last aspect yesterday but G WOULD NOT GO TO SLEEP and Josh went in to do an emergency case. At 9:30, Annabel ended up lying in G’s bed and I passed out in my own room, which was a good enough solution.

Well. I am off to a late start today and it’s a major ‘catch up on everything non-clinical!’ day so we will see how things go. (AND Annabel has a well child check and G has her second COVID vaccine. See? There is no ‘typical’ week. Time tracking is going well 2 days in though!)

I’m dying to know if they’ll still be using Tomoe River paper given the changes with the manufacturer.

ME TOO. And if there is new paper what will it be like!?!?!?

That is a bummer about your headaches. Have you amped up your fitness regimen at all? I know you are more focused on running, but are you taking less rest days than you were in the past? It’s always a mystery/puzzle to solve when something changes with your health. I always want to think it’s something I can figure out, but sometimes it’s not linked to any specific thing.

Our kids get their 2nd dose of the vaccine next week. I had to wait until my husband could come with because it was so awful going by myself with the boys. The 18mo was easier than the 4yo, but I had to set him down while he was screaming post-shot to help restrain the 4yo… It was not fun and I won’t repeat that experience so I am glad we could find a time for my husband to come with.

W222 is making some changes to their planner, like changing the binding, eliminating the ribbons (because of the binding change), and making some subtle changes to the color scheme. But they did not say anything about the paper changing! They also use Tomoe River so I thought it would have to change.

I waited until camp was over, because G got a fever with dose #1 and I didn’t want her to be sick and miss camp (or last week, confuse us b/c we were watching for COVID symptoms.)

Have you tried a magnesium supplement for the migraines? That has really helped my husband. He went from having regular headaches/migraines to having none.

I should try again – I tried Migrelief (supplement with Mg) but gave up pretty quickly. Maybe just regular Mg on its own would be better . . .

Haha! Love your reaction to the Hobonichi news. I was overjoyed – I am using my first Cousin this year having listened to your enthusiasm about them for so many years.
It looked to me like the English version has the same grid size as the Japanese.
But mainly wanted to say that I am living indulging in the preview stage this year. It’s even more delicious to ramp up the anticipation. Thanks for the gift of anticipation of fun planning Sarah.

I very much hope the migraines pass – I know UK summer (which is what I experience) is nothing like Floridian summer, but somehow summer migraines always feel extra icky. Great bedtime solution with A&G!

You think the grid will be the same even though it’s different in the A6? You might be right but I hope not! I appreciate those extra 0.3 mm 🙂 🙂

you’re right. damn it. i will have to post a correction!! i’m happy about the colored pages but i do like the ever so slightly larger grid size in the english A6. And i don’t even have big handwriting!

I have only used the Japanese one, but it is small isn’t it? And I have tiny writing. But still use every other line to make it legible.

Have you ever reviewed the Franklin Covey planners? I love them. They are so customizable. They are the granddaddy of all modern planning systems.

I was so excited to see the English version, even though I agree that the Japanese version did not bother me. I just could not appreciate it unless I tried to use my Google Translate app to translate. I thought I wanted to use the Weeks version for sure in 2023, but I’m now debating sticking with the Cousin version as it worked REALLY well for me in 2022. I should probably submit a question to your podcast lol. I also really like the EC Daily Duo’s layout.

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with migraines. My young son was recently diagnosed with with this, even though we’ve been dealing with it for a couple of years now. We have not been able to figure out a root cause. I saw you mentioned in another post about seeing a migraine specialist, which I’ll need to look it as we’ve only seen a neurologist. So while I cannot empathize personally, I do know it’s heartbreaking to see.

And same here—never a typical week. Sometimes makes planning a doozy!
