5 on a Friday: Taylor Swift etc

October 21, 2022

1- Can 100% see why my structured reading plan idea is completely unappealing to many. Really, I do! But for me it will be a fun experiment. ALSO, I am going to thoroughly mine the comments section for your ideas!

2- TAYLOR SWIFT‘s new album is coming out!!! My kids are super into her these days and I am HERE for it.

3- Yesterday I finished my Wellcoaches certification requirements! Well, I submitted everything, anyway. And passed my written test. I will find out in a week or two if I passed the practical exam, but I think it went okay! I am not planning on becoming a coach per se, but it’s nice to have the certification (and I do feel like I learned some useful things to apply in both the clinical + personal realms).

I started this during the pandemic at the suggestion of my work colleagues who went through it, and I definitely dragged it out. But I finished.

4- I have a tough run this morning on my training plan (2 mi warm up, 2 @ 8:50-9 pace, 4 min rest, 2 @ 8:50-9 pace, 2 mi cd = 8 total). Telling myself that the goal is simply to try my best and even if I can’t meet these (arbitrary!) benchmarks, it will be great training. On the plus side, it’s 65F as I type this, exciting!

At least I will have good music (see above).

5- Weekend planning: today looks like a fairly busy work day and I am sure my in box will have a lot in it since I’m still M / T / F. But if I have even 45 minutes during lunch I am going to try to order groceries and bang out a little weekend planning, since it worked so well last week.

Happy Friday!

Can you say more about why you pursued the coaching certification and what you hope to do with it? I’ve always had a lot of interest in this, but I’ve never taken the plunge. (If there’s another post where you’ve talked about it, happy to look there). Happy Friday!

I didn’t know Taylor had a new album coming out! My oldest loves her, too. His other favorite artist is Brandi Carlile. I have clearly influenced his taste in music! We love the Lover album best since there are a lot of upbeat songs on that album. But there are a couple of songs he likes on her last 2 albums.

I hope your run went well! 8 miles before working sounds so intense!! I haven’t worked out all well as I caught RSV from the toddler (I presume that is what it is since I felt awful and the doctor warned me adults get RSV, too). But I am planning to run tomorrow morning for the first time since Sunday. October is shaping up to be awful for workouts for me. 🙁

I had a workout with 2x2mi at 1/2 marathon pace earlier this week and the last 1/2 mile of the last repeat felt looooooonnnnnnnggggggg. Hope it goes well for you!

Okay my brain always goes straight to logistics… how does an 8 mile run fit into your morning on a work day? Even if the whole thing was at a 9 minute pace that would be 72 minutes right there, not counting obviously shower and getting ready and kids and commute and everything. Did you have to start extra early? Or skip your reading plan? 😉 Obviously you still wrote a blog post in there too. I’m always so interested in how you fit so much into a morning!

Shortened reading, wrote most of this post last night, and ran 5:30-6:50! Oh and I skipped headspace too 🙂

How do you find the motivation / feel safe to run when it is still dark outside? I’m trying to train for a 10 mile race in december (in Florida!) and as my mileage is going up I don’t know how I am going to fit stuff in my days.

I guess I just feel like my neighborhood is safe enough! Sometimes I see others running or walking which helps 🙂

I mostly worry about being hit by a car when it’s still dark out. Crime is more or less a non-issue where I live. Oh, there are also coyotes that live in the nature sanctuary behind my house, so I’m not too enthused to run or walk there at night for that reason as well. Haha.

So… that leaves the treadmill. I have a feeling I will be doing a lot of treadmill walks this winter.

wildlife also tops my list of fears – stray dog, coyote, alligator (i mean, not likely but not impossible!)

I am also an early morning outside person. (I walk whereas you run.) If you have a routine you see the same people (many with their dogs) so there’s comfort in that. I also wear/carry a headlamp like this one https://www.rei.com/rei-garage/product/215033/black-diamond-cosmo-300-headlamp.

of course! I love logistics too!!!

Congrats on finishing your certification! While I personally don’t like keeping track of reading progress bc it happens in spurts for me, I love that you are always tweaking your methods to see what works best. Very inspiring!

Your structured reading plan made me shudder in horror, but if it gets you excited, I hope it works out for you!
