Ep #131: Two Weekly Options: Haroo + Roterunner Purpose Planner

January 30, 2023

Review Episode: Two Weekly Options

I haven’t done that many reviews lately! These two weekly options got me excited, though, and I figured juuuuuust in case some of you are out there with a #plannerfail situation on your hands — it’s nice to have alternatives. These two planners are similar in price and they are both based on a weekly cycle, but there are probably more differences than parallels. Still – both are great options and each offers something unique to the array of planner options out there, so I was excited to review them!

But first: two listeners weighed in on the problem of keeping track of multiple projects in paper notebooks at work.

Idea #1:  Scan handwritten notes and file into OneNote in an organized way

Idea #2: Lean into color coding and one notebook per project!

Each of these solutions is simple, elegant and effective — you listeners always have the best ideas!

Haroo Horizontal Planner

First up is the Haroo Planner, which I ordered in the horizontal view in the olive color.

Size: 6 ¼ x 8 ⅞ in / 192 pages

Paper: 100 GSM paper “soft” paper

Cost: $32

Here it is shown with the second review item behind it, with a pen for scale

Haroo on top, Roterunner on bottom

And here’s the weekly layout mockup I created! LOVE the little vertical timelines on page for each day, the size of the gridlines, and the overall aesthetic. Do not love the Sunday start.

Sunday start on a weekly – an unusual choice

Roterunner Purpopse Planner

Available here; comes in many hard or softcover options. I received this one from the company, and the one shown above is the softcover green version.

Size: 7.75″ x 9.75″ (B5)

Paper: 100 GSM

Cost: $29.77 / $20 digital version

This baby is packed full of features, including many blank dot grid pages. You could pack SO MUCH into this compact book. It is undated and it is 6 months – not a full year.

Love the scanning idea because OneNote is my primary note taking app at work. I’ve tried color coded notebooks or other various assigned notebooks for different purposes. It just doesn’t work for me in my hybrid/remote office scenario. Often I find myself grabbing for whatever is nearby when I need to jot something down.

Same, I’m definitely going to try this.

Thank you! I love the details of this and might use it for tracking purposes, outside my main planner. I would prefer Monday start too…

I’ve had the Haroo tab open in my browser for ages, but I think I’d drive myself mad messing up with those Sunday starts.

I like the Sunday start actually as I often do planning for the week on Sundays and so it feels like a nice day for a fresh start. I am using an Appointed weekly planner this year but am already not loving it… definitely planning on Haroo for next year!

I much prefer a Sunday start. I think that is kind of the US standard? I wonder if you were influenced to prefer Monday starts after years of being in a Hobinichi? The W222 has a Monday start and I have to be very careful about not messing up the monthly calendar page. I don’t struggle w/ it as much on weekly spreads, though. But given the choice, I’d love the planner way way way more if it had a Sunday start!

Weekly planner Sunday start? Most brands are Monday. Erin condren, simplified… most!

      Monthly I agree with you.

I must be thinking of the monthly spreads… I used EC Life Planners way back in the day and thought it was a Sunday start on the weekly spread but I cannot rely on my memory from that time frame (that was around 2010 so too far back for me to trust my memory) ! It’s the monthly spread starting on Monday that gives me the most trouble.

Yep, totally agree most US monthlies are Sunday. I don’t mind that at all! But weekly are almost always Monday to Sunday!
