4 Fun Things

April 18, 2023

1- Most neglected sense:

Quiz HERE

I feel like this may make me weird, but it’s probably true. Now I know why I do not care about decor . . .

What is yours, if you’ve taken the quiz?

Loved listening to Laura chat with Gretchen today on BOBW (yes, a self-promotional reference but really I hadn’t heard it until it went live!).

2- I shopped!

I overdrew my allowance (and then overdrew it some more because my AirPods broke and I finally just relented and bought new ones. With AppleCare this time!).

(Overdrew = I will get $0 in future months until I pay my virtual debt to myself in that category, if that makes sense! Did not actually overdraw anything, that would be bad.)

Ignore my hair and the mild mess behind me.

First pair of wide-legged pants in at least 2.5 decades:

Bridget slim wide leg crop in peach whip (Nice color name, ML.)
I sized up a size per the reviews and this was the right move!)

Is is 1995 or 2023? Will Annabel borrow my skirt in about 5 minutes? These are all good questions.

Emilia skirt in black + Amber rib tank in olive heather

I also got a super comfy dress, a short sleeve button down, and 3 t-shirts. AAAAND now I have met my shopping quota for spring/summer 2023. (I do want a new pair of sandals. In June perhaps.)

3- I live-streamed the Boston Marathon while at work yesterday morning!

I was working but in any spare moment I was sneaking peeks at the race. Was so exciting! I got stressed out rooting for Emma Bates but it was worth it. SHOUT OUT to Chelsea, blog reader / Patreon member who RE-QUALIFIED FOR BOSTON AT BOSTON! Amazing! Watching was highly motivating – hope to some day see it (and run it!!!) in person.

4- This week’s Patreon discussion is on FRIENDSHIP, which I think will be a fun and motivating topic. We’ve had lively conversations in the thread – for me, it’s a non-toxic version of social media. Recently we have discussed:

  • decluttering
  • 100 dreams
  • TBT rules
  • cooking ideas for company
  • . . .and much more 🙂

If you are free Thursday at 12pm Eastern, consider joining us (recordings are also always shared if you prefer to enjoy things like that asynchronously!)

My deprived sense is also sight – I think that’s Gretchen’s too. Is there a correlation between upholders and sight deprivation?

I would like to update my wardrobe but first I need to do a major purge but haven’t been able to find the time/motivation to do that!

      I think Gretchen’s is hearing!

        Hers is taste.

ahhhh yes you are right! sorry about that. she made some references to not liking music but you’re right – she and elizabeth both had taste, right?

it’s so funny about A borrowing your skirts. I’ve started to put away clothes that I won’t wear anymore for Sofia! hahahah…. she’ll need a growth spurt and she will be right at my size.
hope we can BQ together!!! can you imagine? first thing I did when I woke up yesterday was to check how Kipchoge did…. bummer though. even Sofia said it’s sad how he lost the league. but still an impressive man.

It was funny – as we were finishing the race, it seemed like all the runners were asking the volunteers if Kipchoge had won. It was a big surprise to find out that he didn’t.

oh. I plan to go overboard shopping in may when I go to dc. hahaha….

My neglected sense is touch! I knew I would score high on sight and sound, and touch makes sense as it’s not very important to me compared to many of the others.

My sister ran Boston yesterday and it was so exciting to have some “skin in the game” cheering her on. She moves to a new age category next year…and I’m considering trying to get down to see her race (fingers crossed she qualifies, of course). Boston is within driving distance (like 8ish hours) for me…Maybe?!

So cool! I honestly don’t think I have much chance until 2026 (qualifying in fall 2024) unless something wild happens with my current training. But fall 2024 is not THAT far away!

I took the quiz, and my neglected sense is smell. Makes sense as a fully anosmic person, but of course I cannot implement the suggestions. Fun idea though!
Interesting that sight is yours, when you do care so much about pretty stationery/planners!

    • Reply Sarah Hart-Unger April 19, 2023 at 11:23 am

oh MAN!!! fully anosmic, that quiz would have annoyed me 🙂 🙂

GREAT question. maybe i like how they feel . . . lol (actually though, that is part of it!)
if the questions had been planner-adjacent sight might have ranked higher!!!!

Thanks so much for the shout out :). It was an amazing experience and one of the fastest 3 hours and 39 minutes of my life. Especially that final mile. I bet it’s going to happen for you :). I’m definitely cheering you on through your training.

My neglected sense is smell – no surprise as I avoid smells because I get headaches from strong smells and have even been known to vomit from strong candle smells. So now I am very assertive if I can’t escape the place to ask people to please put out the candle/ stop using a scent in the office (the smokers tend to spray themselves at their desks once they return)

Love your new shopping finds! Maybe you’ve answered this question before, but do you have a one-in-one-out policy for clothing? At what interval do you clear things out? I love having a pared back closet, but I always buy a few new pieces each season so it never stays that way for long. Do you pass things along/donate/store in case you want them later?

    • Reply Sarah Hart-Unger April 20, 2023 at 10:06 am

I don’t have a one-in-one-out policy but I do purge once in a while (donating) and honestly just don’t buy that many clothes! i wear the same things over and over often until they are worn out.

i never shop sales. i used to, and ended up with so many things that almost worked. i put in a larger order like this one occasionally and keep what really fits and that i love.

      • Reply Erika April 20, 2023 at 10:55 am

I am impressed! I *feel* like I do this, but given the state of my closet it must not be the case. I have dresses, sweaters and tops from 10 years ago that I have a hard time getting rid of because they are nice quality. Going to do another round of donating and see what happens.
Maybe I need to give myself a pass on owning more things since we have 4 very real seasons in New England!

        • Reply Sarah Hart-Unger April 20, 2023 at 11:49 am

definitely i have the ‘basically only one season’ thing on my side here! i have a few sweaters that are mostly for travel and some are a decade old and still look fine . . .
