Not doing terribly much this weekend. And that’s ok! Sometimes it can be nice to just do life maintenance stuff and not rush around. The kids (ALL 3) slept until 9 am, which was pretty wild. Definitely a sleep PR for our household. I got back from my run AND showered before anyone else was awake, including Josh.
I don’t expect that to become a regular thing, but it was sort of a taste of the future because it does not seem like many teens (or tweens) are naturally early risers.
Today
Long run (14 mi)
Nap
Piano for A/G (C has a bball game; Josh is taking him)
Library stop
Grocery store (glamorous I know! Probably not even TJs, we are out of some staples that are only at Publix or Whole Foods)
Date night! Initially I felt a little bad because A/C are only home over the weekend, but we’ll have lots of other time with them this weekend – not to mention coming up on our family trip. And gotta celebrate/appreciate these non-call-weekends while we can.
Summer reading list. I’m almost done with Yellowface (very interesting book; compelling but at the same time I’m ready to get off the wild ride and read something else) + halfway through Rick Rubin’s The Creative Act. Just put a slew of additional titles on hold. It has been a good reading summer so far!

What do the dot colors mean in your reading list? And your weekend sounds nice – can be good to have a catch up weekend and feel relaxed by Monday!
yellow = out now; green = cruise (b/c cruise themed); blue = not out yet (at beginning of summer); purple = nonfiction
I *just* finished Yellowface. It’s definitely a wild ride, one I really want to discuss with my bookclub. Unfortunately I picked my book (4000 weeks) before this one came out, so I’m hoping I can convince someone else to pick it for their month.
aaaaand now i’m done too. Just wow. Agree, excellent book club choice!
Just finished Fresh Water for Flowers—highly recommend. One of the most beautiful books I’ve ever read.
I love this book too!
oooh thank you!! I’ve heard of it (I think via MMD) and will have to add to list!
I just had my nephew with me for a week for “aunt camp”. He’s eleven now and slept till about ten every morning, meaning I got my workouts in before he was even awake. Kids getting older is definitely a plus!
awww you sound like an amazing aunt!
Have you read ‘hello beautiful’ yet? In dying to know what you think! It’s still my top read for 2023.
OMG kids sleeping until 9 sounds dreamy and so far off. Our 5yo woke me at 5:30 saying he was so so so so scared. So I laid with him until 6 which is his ‘ok time’ to get up. So I left at 6 thinking he would get up and watch something on his iPad. But he fell back asleep… and I couldn’t. Le sigh. But my husband is taking the kids to his mom’s tomorrow after nap so I can have some alone time at home. I can’t wait as I am never alone in my house.
After 2 weeks in Lisbon, we’ve decamped to my parents’ in the country and are embracing the lazy/grandparent help. I’m planning to spend the next 4 days on the porch with my book or in the Atlantic.
Right now though, I’m finishing off my formal resignation details! I’ve got a job closer to home (not close, but closer/no plane!).
OMG WOW – very exciting! wishing you the best in the job transition – hooray for not having to fly to work!
Yes, it is not unusual for my 15 and 12 yos to sleep until 9:30/10 on the weekends. It is also not unusual for them to be up until midnight.
do you stay up with them 🙂 ? I can’t imagine ever lasting that long . . .
