Things Making Me Happy

August 19, 2023

My planner switch. YESSS I’m doing it. Going from disc-bound Inkwell Press –> Aura Estelle undated weekly + blank Stalogy notebook. I loved many things about the IWP system — the paper especially! But at the end of the day it didn’t feel like me. I want gridlines + simplicity and I don’t want anyone writing my headers for me these days!

The kids are excited about their activities. I mean, at least they are going in with enthusiasm . . . A/G are mostly doubled up on their choices (gymnastics / dance / piano) and C is just in soccer for now because even though it’s just one activity, it’s a lot (3 practices every week and games most weekends, sometimes both Sat/Sun).

My run felt *slightly* cooler today! Apparently it was 78F / 93% humidity but it felt better than usual to me, especially with a light rain coming in at the end (rain without thunder/lightning = not that common here in August and I welcome it!).

We have very little going on this weekend. Piano / dentist are done and other than Barbie (going in afternoon), tomorrow’s calendar is clear. YAY.

Podcast Rec: Planet Money –> Vacation and Why the US Takes So Little of It. (I take mine!)

Honestly I’m just looking forward to really immersing into this next phase.

That planner spread looks almost perfect to me- bigger than the Wonderland? That’s what I was using until I mostly now switched to digital. But the only thing I would love to add to that spread would maybe be a big blank chunk at the top or side somewhere where I could list a brain dump of to-do items for the week. I used to do that in the top margin of the wonderland (though it was tight space wise), and then I could select a couple items from there each day to assign myself and list in the daily box/column at the bottom.

It’s A5 so probably same as your wonderland unless you have their B6! There is actually a blank page between each weekly spread which can be used for goals lists etc !

Oh wow, that’s cool! I also didn’t notice at first glance that it’s 8 columns, so that first column can be a general to do list area! Tempting!! But I feel like digital is making a lot of sense for me right now…. I feel like we have so many constant changes and unknowns.

That aura looks nice!! I was searching around for a possible alternative to W222. I want something bound with minimal guided goals/etc. After watching some Amanda’s Favorites content I think I will probably just stick with the W222. I kind of fell off using it the last several months. It seems like the busier I am, the less I use my planner? But so much of my day is dictated by my outlook calendar. I am bummed that I didn’t keep up with the monthly review as I leaned on that quite a bit when writing my self review last year. I think I have plenty to say for my review this year since my meeting count is multiples of what I did in 2022. But I want to get back on track.

I will have to listen to that podcast about vacations. My company moved to ‘plan your time’ meaning we have no set policy and you take what you need. I am sure they did that because a) people took less off than their yearly allotment and b) there is no accrual to pay out when they leave. I have been trying to track my time off. I have taken a few blocks off this year but I need to take more random ‘shouldless days as those are the most relaxing for me!

I love gridded paper. I feel like it’s much more common in Europe… you can’t find it here that easily but to have a planner that comes in grid is awesome!
