I am feeling sad and anxious today. I think the kids heard too much (my fault, honestly), and G burst into tears when I was trying to explain things to her. I could see her so hurt, shocked, and confused that some people might hate others just because of their background, culture, or religion.
I keep picturing that moment and wanting to cry.
And so I don’t have much else to say today.
We are going to the Keys this weekend to a conference where Josh is presenting. I’m hoping the family time will be a nice distraction. I do plan on doing my long run at the resort even if I have to run in ~1 mi circles. The predicted low there is 82 tomorrow which is even worse than at home (here, a comparatively refreshing low of 78 tomorrow!).
Hoping everyone has a safe and peaceful weekend.

I think we all need some ((hugs)) right now. Here’s one from me.
Thank you!
The butterfly conservatory is a nice visit if you’ll be on Key West!
Would love that but we are not going that far south!
Just a note to say I totally hear you right now. My 7 yo asked why there were policemen outside of school today just as I was dropping him off. Makes my heart ache.
I’m so devastated and heartbroken. I wouldn’t even know how to explain this to kids as I don’t even understand why these horrific things keep happening around the world. I feel your loss of words deeply.
My heart hurts for you all. NPR posted an article the other day about talking to your kids about the conflict, here’s a link https://www.npr.org/2023/10/11/1205017249/how-to-talk-to-children-violence-israeli-palestinian-gaza-hamas
Life kit also did a podcast about it yesterday.
Thanks! I listened & appreciate you sharing this helpful resource.
It’s all so awful. As if it weren’t scary enough sending our kids to school and operating in the world with the baseline threat of domestic terrorism and gun violence. (((hugs)))

Give yourself a little grace on discussing this with your kids. It’s hard.
