Weekend highlights:
I know, it’s Tuesday. But it was such a fun weekend! On Saturday, we had Run Club (this is not an official thing really . . but I call it that) dinner (w kids). It was so much fun and it always cracks me up how different my running friends look in actual clothing. We all clean up nicely π
Then on Sunday — upon request — I took A and G to get their ears pierced. We kept things easy and went to Claire’s about 15 minutes away (one of the few locations not in a mall) and A left with sparkly pink earrings. She initially had her ears pierced at age 4, but years ago they got irritated and eventually closed up. She may have inherited my metal sensitivity – I only wear titanium based earrings now and have no issues!
G left with . . . clip ons. It was bittersweet, she was all excited but then after watching A (who was entirely stoic and barely flinched!) was like “NO WAY” and then started crying because she wanted to have pierced ears but could not bring herself to get up in the chair. I could see her doing battle with herself and told her not to worry because we can just go back another time when she feels ready.
Then it was time for the Super Bowl – I made our traditional Cincinnati Chili and a bunch of snacks and we all watched the first half and the halftime show. We actually got a new TV (sort of) for the occasion – our old one was small, >12 years old and had some persistent lines on it . . . it was time. I am pretty amazed at how vivid the images are on this thing. I guess TVs have come a long way since ~2010 . . .
As I write this, it is Monday.
I kind of . . . love Mondays. The whole fresh start to the week thing always makes me happy and just excited to dive in. Plus there’s usually a group run to start the day (fun). Let’s hope I can keep this energy up past Tuesday. Last couple of weeks were sort of rough but I feel like I’m fully back in action. Although I am not terribly excited for my taper this week. (BUT, at least the taper didn’t coincide with PMS!)
One additional note:
Allison from PrepDish had me on her podcast!! It was a fun interview (all about things planning + planning-adjacent!).

It is funny how different running friends look “in real life”. People who I see multiple times a week I almost wouldn’t recognize in the light and without athletic wear.
I remember getting my own ears pierced in 1st grade. I’d wanted to have it done and my mom took me as a surprise reward after I’d had my tonsils out, lol. I was terrified at first but then we took a lap around the mall and by the time we got back, I’d relaxed enough to go through with it. I feel like everyone had it done back then, but I’ve never looked closely enough at my kids’ classmates to get a sense of if it was still a popular thing to do.
awwww! I was 8 and had begged for it for ages, so it felt like an event. A lot of kids here have their ears pierced as babies! I’m going on a field trip in G’s class today so I’ll look to see what the ratio of pierced/nonpierced is π
I clicked over right away because those jeans look so good on you! Not sure they are in my budget for this month, but you are totally rocking them.
We just got K’s ears pierced, too (upon request) at a local tattoo spot and she just now can start switching them out. So cute to see them get so excited about it π
awww! thank you! you (like me) will have to hem them, but they are great. super comfortable and flattering. the right amount of stretch and really cute washes.
we totally thought about doing the tattoo parlor thing but in the end Claire’s won out for the convenience and familiarity factor π
I love that you’ve got the local run club, how cool that you’ve found your people and can bring the families together.
I got my ears repierced last summer and it was daunting! I got it done at a fancy tattoo shop so part of it was feeling deeply uncool, but also, it was 4 holes.
I quite like a Monday as well, I’m generally WFH and my husband and son go to Scouts in the evening, so I get a nice quiet house to work a bit longer or just potter around. This week is halfterm, and T is at his grandparents so we had a good work day and then watched a few episodes of One Day.
I have 5 ear piercings total (3 left, 2 right), because #teeninthe90s. I had a cartilage piercing that I got in college, but eventually let that close. I don’t think I’ll be piercing anything else but I think all 5 earring holes are still functional (though I only wear one pair of earrings regularly)
I had no idea you had 5 piercings! What a fun factoid.
I got my ears pierced when I was 18 or 19. My best friend in college worked at – wait for it – Claire’s and did it for me. I LOVE having pierced ears.
My daughter got her ears pierced a little over a year ago (11, almost 12), but she doesn’t wear earrings much now? She goes through phases and her holes aren’t going to grow over, but she only wears earrings like 1-2 times/week and I ALWAYS wear earrings. I don’t wear bracelets or necklaces basically ever, but feel naked without a pair of earrings in.
If I had it to do over again I would probably go the tattoo parlour route because the holes tend to heal faster and they can line things up straighter; we went to a local hair salon for my daughter. It’s fine, but I found the healing process a lot longer than it was for friends who had their kids do it at a local tattoo place.
I sleep in my earrings and leave them in for months (usually until I lose one and then I replace the pair – thankfully the titanium ones I wear are not terribly pricey!).
I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve slept with earrings the last five years. I HATE sleeping in earrings and I’d say I shower with earrings maybe twice a year? Years and years ago I lost a real pearl earring (a gift from my now-husband) down a shower drain when it came loose as I was washing my hair. That one moment changed me forever. I don’t swim in earrings, shower in earrings, or sleep in earrings basically ever!
The jeans look fabulous! We had an appointment with a client yesterday that almost solely focused on which jeans go with which boots and, haha! I love your wide legs with the Birkenstocks. And how great that you took the girls to Claire’s! Glad to hear one rite of passage is still the same after all these years. And we have had the same 50″ TV since 2008 without a problem. Amazing how cheap they are now though compared to then!
You are on Amanda’s Favorites! SO MUCH FUN to see the two worlds collide. So glad it came out today before I give up YouTube for Lent.
Ohhh it aired!!!! I am going to air on the podcast too!!
Wait please tell me about these titanium earrings!!! I have to wear super pure gold ($$$) or I get a rash. Where do you find them????
My daughter has been asking about getting her ears pierced and I think we will allow it soon but she doesnβt do well with needles so I am very nervous about it. But all her friends have them soβ¦
Madewell has some earrings with titanium posts. Tiny luxe has I believe all titanium earrings
Yes tini luxe is where I get them!!
Tiniluxe ! Changed my earring experience!
This is a one of my all-time favorite parenting stories about the meaning of the word “brave”, and it tells a story of two sisters getting their ears pierced π https://www.huffpost.com/entry/the-real-meaning-of-brave_b_5900588
I love your jean!!! looks so casual but chic!
Sofia wants to get her ear pierced for a while but we need to wait until swimming practice ends as it requires few weeks to heal? what’s the protocol in the US?
I miss my running group in manila. I haven’t found one here, it would be fun to run with others once a week.
Thank you! Yes, 3 weeks to heal. Annabel swims just weekly in school but due to the timing she only has to miss one! Sheβs not on a team like Sofia. She will have to do in her off season.
You look good in those jeans! I feel like they would look stupid on my because I have shorter legs/longer torso (sigh.) But maybe I’m wrong- I can never figure this jeans thing out.
Poor G! Great idea to get her clip ons… and she’ll get them pierced eventually.
We’re both tapering this week! Right now the forecast looks like it could be rainy for both our races… that’s okay! I’ll take rain over crushing heat any day.
I am the queen of short legs and longer torso (I mean nothing on me is long, but longer than my legs) so maybe they would work!!!
Yes! Me too and that silhouette works on me too.
Agree! Not entirely sure how well my alphaflys will fare on slippery surfaces but rather rain than super hot any day!!!
Love those jeans!!
Aww, I kinda love that G went with the clip ons. Totally reasonable choice. π My girls got theirs done last year at 11 and 8. We went to a tattoo place because I was a little scarred by my childhood mall kiosk piercing experience. They have done great other than my youngest losing about 5 pairs of fancier earrings before I switched to cheapo Amazon titanium studs (which of course she has not lost). My ears seem unhappy about everything, including titanium, so they remain mostly unadorned despite my kids’ prodding.
What are the earrings that work for you? I have very allergic areas and want to get second piercings but I wonder if it will be the same for all my holes.
