August Will Not Slip Away!

August 1, 2024

But I can see us lost in the memory
August slipped away into a moment in time
‘Cause it was never mine

~ Taylor Swift, Folklore

All right, the song is about an affair and thankfully not truly relevant to this post! But I do feel like this is a month thats deserves respect, contemplation, even maybe a moment of silence.

There’s just A LOT HERE.

So, let’s unpack it, shall we? Feel free to leave your own August-related thoughts (or song lyrics) below.

LOOKING FORWARD TO: OUR TRIP! I feel like traveling as a family gets more fun each year and I want to really enjoy this one. I am hoping to laugh a lot, eat good food, run in awesome weather, and relax.

HOPING TO ACHIEVE: Book proposal draft completion! I would estimate I am ~60% done! I have most of the sections written and one sample chapter (draft, obvs) DONE. I need to write other one and fill in a few gaps and . . . yay! Excited to finally have momentum here.

NERVOUS ABOUT: Putting all of the pieces together next year, especially with all of the evening sports! But will fill out some Ideal Weeks, play with it, and try not to stress too much until I have to.

WATCHING: Olympics – lots of track & field and more gymnastics are up ahead! I am also shamelessly excited to watch Dance Moms: A New Era with Annabel.

LISTENING: To all of the Back to School podcast episodes. I am always fascinated about how others approach this season!! ALSO enjoying the summer mixes on Apple Music, especially during speedwork.

READING: Still going through summer reading picks over here! I’m currently in the middle of Jackpot Summer by Elyssa Friedland with The Bandit Queens by Parini Shroff on deck (neighborhood book club pick).

NOT THINKING ABOUT: Reddit. Lol. But seriously, I think I’ve gotten to the point where I just don’t consider it an option anymore, and I feel freeeeeeee. Thankfully I don’t feel like I’ve gravitated towards any substitutes. (Entirely off since 6/15/24 – 1.5 months now!)

Finally, it’s Hobonichi Countdown season!! They launched here and I’m excited 🙂

Hi Sarah! I could have sworn that I’m a subscriber to your newsletter, but I can’t find it in my inbox (or my spam folder). I just (re?)subscribed .. I’m interested in BLPA – could you push the newsletter to me? Thank you! Amy

Yes, I’ve had to RE subscribe more than once. I’m wondering if there’s a glitch somewhere there? Don’t want to miss those newsletters- even if it does sometimes make it seem like the year is flying!

I hope your vacation is a blast and you get to experience some cooler, drier air! Your kids are at great ages for travel. That will be us in 2 years and I look forward to not having a toddler on vacation. 🙂 He is getting easier but it’s still challenging to travel with him at times which is why I’m only taking the 6yo when I visit my sister in VA in October!

I’m excited for August because I am not traveling for work. There is a small chance I will have to travel the last week of the month but I am hoping not to. We also have our week-long vacation to my parents which is always a fun getaway for us. We don’t do much there but that’s kind of what we need. The boys are so entertained by the sand+water and we go on pontoon rides and will eat a few casual meals out. And then the boys will stay there for another week since we have a childcare gap for my oldest. I am glad they were willing to keep both boys. My mom figures it will be easier having both since they’ll play together plus they acted like model children for my parents. I have great memories of the times I spent with my grandparents so am happy to give those memories to my kids – while also giving my husband and I a much-needed break/quiet week. Now I just hope I do not travel that week!

I still don’t “get” how people get so drawn into Reddit (what do you do there??), I’ve only used it as a resource for when I was looking up specific information… but I am so happy to hear the ‘going cold turkey’ has worked for you so far. It can be quite liberating to let go of something.

Okay, I’m determined not to let August slip away! It’s so tempting to look forward to cooler weather, the holidays, football season- but I don’t want to wish the month away.
Enjoy your vacation! It sounds amazing. I’ve never been to Seattle so I can’t want to hear all about it.

I’m quite happy for August to slip away haha it’s winter here in Australia and the 1st of September is Spring! Yay! I’m over -2 degrees Celsius.. bring on the warmer weather. Our new school new isn’t till February 2025! School kids go into new grades the beginning of every year after our summer 🌺

Well, now I have that song stuck in my head, but it’s a good one so I’m not TOO upset.

August doesn’t mean much to me, haha, but it’s always a month I’m happy to go by fast. It’s just so hot and miserable here. I mean, not like it gets better in September but I feel like I can pretend fall is almost here. 😉
