Reentry + A Transitional Week!

August 13, 2024

Back in with a bang

Yesterday Josh and I went back to work and A had orientation. There was also a parent orientation that we attended despite the fact that both of us had work! Since I was on call I was able to flex my day a bit and start/end a bit late and I am happy to report that I am *almost* caught up in my EPIC inbox other than a pile of bone age X rays to read and interpret (and communicate results to parents).

A had a decent day and feels pretty ready for her actual school start day, which is Wednesday! SPORTS kick off in earnest today with soccer + gymnastics. HERE WE GO.

I am definitely tired (that 3 hour West –> East reentry issue is real) but there is some adrenaline circulating saving me thus far. I hope it lasts the week.

G starts with her own orientation on Friday, and EVERYONE will finally be in school for a normal-length day next Monday. Thus, I am considering this a transitional week. I am thinking about Q4 goals / routines / etc but am not planning on any official implementation until next week, when I am done with call and we can actually settle into a school routine as a family. I am also planning on filling in an Ideal Week template this week and doing a time tracking week next week! It is time.

  • The Dance Moms reboot is kind of stressful (a lot more yelling and crying than the old Dance Moms, which is saying something) AND the whole family is into it, including Josh + C. Also, some of the dancers in this round are next level (and I have watched a lot of Dance Moms so I now know what I’m talking about. JKJKJK.)
  • Hobonichi continues to release their 2025 covers! Love this one the most so far.
soothing! a breath of planner fresh air
  • I am now addicted to the Mini crossword on NYT games, so now I do wordle –> connections –> the Mini. So fun, and I enjoy the race-against-time challenge it presents! Not sure if it’s new or if I just didn’t realize it was there before.

re-entry with changing schedules is always stressful. We will have another transition once after school activities start in September. Will worry about it later.
love the new cover for techno. when do you order 2025 notebook and cover? will they release more covers?

Oof, I feel like back from vacation, back to school, and call is a doozy. But there’s probably an argument of getting all the chaos over with and then knowing things will normalise a bit more next week.

T starts tomorrow. He’s in a basketball camp all morning in the city, and I promised an ice cream en route to the bus (a decently long walk), so I’m hoping he’s suitably worn out to support an early bedtime. He’s had us arrange to get there early to meet a new friend, as he’s never convinced he’ll be able to find his pals at recess? The friend joined at Easter, so I think the parents were quite chuffed that somone was looking out for him.

We need to pin down our routines as well, but I’m anxiously refreshing emails to see if T got off the waitlist for a Friday activity (12 pm release, every Friday…) and can’t really do anything til we know that. Also, we’ve had no comms from the school since June, which feels weird… like surely a back to school welcome would be a good idea? But I guess they have 5 more business hours…

Despite being a Notion and a Outlook calendar devotee, I bought a Papier academic calendar (in a gorgeous constellation print). Who knows how long it will stick, but sometimes when I’m stressed, I think I need a system.

Our whole fam is also ALL IN for the new dance moms. Dorothy has already watched the whole thing twice, but the rest of us have just watched the first episode, and we cry-laughed. Even Coop has some catch phrases. Also, Ashlan is DOROTHY getting her makeup done, and I feel bad for her mom.

Ohhhhh I feel for Ashlan’s mom
      Too- on many levels !!
      I dislike Domenica intensely
      And, Audrey is insanely good

Yes, the beginning of school is hard!!! Way easier now that I only have one kid at home, but it’s still an adjustment. I’m relieved that we’ve made it through the first two early mornings.
I’m about to listen to your “Back to School” podcast with Laura- it’s fun to hear how other people are managing everything

We were back to school yesterday and it was pretty good. Today is the day I think is going to be rough because the novelty is over and the idea that they are going to have to keep doing this for the next 10 months sets in, lol.

It’s probably good to have a bit of a phased-in re-entry/return to school since you are also recovering from jet lag and you have call, too! I enjoyed the back to school episode this morning which I listened to while on my morning run. Return to school is still a ways away for us but it’s on my mind as I need to get Paul’s school supplies which I should probably just order from amazon – and yet, I want to take him to Target instead even though school supplies are not nearly as exciting for him as they are for me! But it’s a tradition I feel strongly about holding onto since I have such fond memories of back to school shopping with my mom!

That cover is so gorgeous! I am a bit sad that I won’t be ordering a W222 for 2025 but I’m just not using it enough to order another one.

Do you use a notebook at all for lists ? Even that can be fun to have a fresh one for the year!

      • Reply Lisa's Yarns August 13, 2024 at 12:59 pm

Yes, I’ve been using the notebook section of the W222. But I bought an accessory note book for a previous W222 that I never touched so when I run out of pages in the 2024 W222 I will use that. But eventually, I will need a new notebook. I just can’t justify buying one until I use up what I have…

I am addicted to the Mini crossword too! I play Wordle and Connections too, along with Strands – have you tried that one yet? That is a super fun one too! And sending good thoughts to all of you for back to school. We go back a week from Thursday!

Strands is really fun, and can be pretty challenging when you try to use no hints!

    • Reply Sarah Hart-Unger August 14, 2024 at 10:01 am

I do strands sometimes! For me it’s either super easy or really hard!

Transitioning back to work and school is always stressful after vacation. I am glad to hear it went all fairly smoothly.
