JAX Marathon Training: 9 Weeks Until Race

M: Rest (had 18 Sunday!)

T: Easy run with hill stride, 8 mi @ 9:43/mi

W: Warmup outside (4 mi @ 9:15/mi, super humid pre hurricane air), 4 mi TM hills – 6 x 2 min hills, 7 mph / 4% for the hills, jogging recoveries between + easy cooldown

R: Tired run post-Milton! 9 mi @ 10:02/mi ave. Lots of fallen sticks and small branches but not much else. Also did 20 min Full Body Strength (Peloton / Callie)

F: 7 mi easy, 9:15/mi ave. FL FALL SEEMS TO HAVE ARRIVED! Only 73F/89%. Hooray!

S: 14 mi easy, 9:07/mi average. It was 74F/83% humidity instead of the typical ~80F/90% and it felt amazing! I wore my MetaSpeeds which have over 250 miles on them (they aren’t really supposed to last that long). I have to say are definitely less Super than when they started, but still a nice ride.

S: 4 mi easy, last mile with Cameron! He threw in a finishing kick in the last 400m (probably ~8:00/mi?) that impressed me! 20 min Strength for Runners (Peloton / Matt Wilpers) – mostly kickstand deadlifts + split squats.

Total: 50 mi / 2 strength (20 min each)

I am guessing this will be my most relaxed week until taper, but I’m enjoying running so much more again now that life is more normal AND the weather is improving! (Remind me though, NOT to do a marathon in this particular time frame ever again. March – May race is the way to go!)

Media Report

Ummmmmmmmm, confession: it has been a scrolling kind of week for me! (Including a fair chunk of Reddit, which I hate and also unfortunately really like, and HATE that I like! An ouroboros of sorts <– admittedly I just learned this word, but I kind of love it).

But that’s okay. I love to set goals. AND, I really try to practice (and preach!) NOT being judgmental or self-flagellating when I don’t meet them. Instead, I think it’s best to approach unmet goals with compassion and curiosity – what didn’t work? Did it even matter? Or, how can I perhaps adjust my strategy OR expectations next time?

Truthfully, I’m not sure I’m ever going to NOT scroll in a hurricane type of scenario, and that’s ok! I can still however look back, acknowledge that it wasn’t the best week focus-wise, and move on. Every day / week / month / season / year is a fresh start, after all.

So, here was last week’s screen time:

I am happy to note that I did finish Hyperefficient and watched lots of Emily in Paris (I consider this a good thing!). AND, I got to see Olympic gymnasts perform – that is entertainment/experiential media at its finest! I didn’t read much of my novel (probably need to finish the TV series first as it’s kind of taking the place of reading fiction right now, and that’s okay — AND I’m almost caught up).

I started Kendra Adachi’s The Plan, too — current morning read! Interesting to read her perspective so far!!

I do journal my media, by the way, and I love it. Every day in my Hobonichi I try to capture the podcasts I listen to, the TV I watch, the pages I read. It doesn’t take long and has become a fun thing to cultivate an awareness of, if that makes sense. I’m not perfect and I’m sure I don’t capture everything, but it’s a snapshot and I plan on continuing.
