A Lot Going On At The Moment

February 4, 2025

Thx Taylor.

I don’t mean this in a particularly negative way but I just feel like I am lacking any sort of margin (btw, life is NOT always like this for me, but I feel like I write about it when it is, so maybe it seems that way!). I remarked to Josh that I would like a 9 day week:

  • 3 days to do clinical work
  • 3 days to do creative work
  • 3 days to enjoy the weekend!

Sounds nice, right? How about this configuration:

M: Creative

T: Clincial

W: Creative

X: Break day! KIND of like a weekend day, but in the middle of the week. You know, BREAK DAY.

R: Clinical

F: Creative

Y: Clinical

S: Weekend Day #1

S: Weekend Day #2

I mean, I’m sure the instant I actually had that configuration I’d come up with some other mythical arrangement that was better, but that sure does look lovely. I don’t dislike my creative days and I don’t dislike my clinical days, but the combination IS currently stressing me out a bit.

I am 99% sure that once my final book draft has been turned in, everything will feel more sustainable again. This is DUE 2/19 (no wiggle room) so hey – at least I know this period is finite. I will look forward to celebrating my doneness with a family trip to Legoland! (not really, but we will be going there that weekend, and I’m sure we could include a toast to my book draft while also celebrating C’s bday and A’s gym meet!).

On the plus side, I continue to feel like there are a lot of good things to look forward to. This is true despite the fact that I’m PMSing like crazy and usually when that week rolls around I just want to light my whole life on fire (anyone else?). So like, when I get out from under the current pressure there will be a ton of things to enjoy! TOMORROW will hopefully be a solid writing progress day, and I’m also looking forward to a fun meetup with some local and less-local bloggers (pix to come!).

PS: I did end up outsourcing cleaning up my endnotes! To whoever suggested that, THANK YOU! GOOD CALL!

In other news, I learned that The Mom Hour podcast is coming to a close! Have loved listening to Meagan and Sarah over the years and excited they are starting another podcast, even if it sounds like it may be less frequent. Wishing them all the best!!

Podcasting is a very interesting industry! I enjoyed Laura Tremaine’s recent ep on starting one (“If I Were Starting a Podcast Today . . .”), and I also would not encourage anyone to take up podcasting with the idea that it will be a solid/main income stream (unless you are already super famous / have a huge audience elsewhere). Thankfully I still really enjoy doing it (both the eps with Laura, the interviews, and on my own).

And now, back to patient care. I did finally make it to the bottom of my inbox (which had emails from 1/20 which is not that terrible but not up to my usual standards). One day at a time!

Sorry you are PMSing- I just wrote about my own current struggles on Monday! I actually thought of you Sarah on Sunday when I thought to myself “I hate everybody and everything right now” HA. And I can’t take the contraceptive pill either due to migraines.
Exciting the book is almost drafted- no doubt things will feel less insane after that goes in.
Have so much fun at your blogger meetup! Can’t wait to see pics 🙂

Ooh, sign me up for the 9 day week. Actually, no, I think in this fantasy I have an 8 day week, but only 4 days of work (*8 hour days). So my schedule goes:
    M- work
    T- work
    W- break day #1
X- break day #2 (*I want TWO break days in the middle 😅)
    T- work
    F- work
    S- weekend #1
    S- weekend #2
    I think 2 on, 2 off would be a nice rotation. 😉

Well that’s a 4 day week! I would def sign up for that one, too!!!

Yes! I would be happy to just add one extra day to the week. Sometimes my weeks feel manageable, but then if I have a busy weekend I just feel like there’s not enough time to relax AND clean the house, so then I feel frazzled on Monday- not a good way to start a new week. Yes- you will have a huge weight lifted off when your book draft is done- obviously the way to celebrate is a trip to Legoland (ha ha.)
Thank you for making time for the blogger meetup tomorrow! I know it’s going to be fun- but those hours are precious to you.

I am loving your nine-day week! Looks like an excellent configuration to me. Who do we need to call to implement it?

2/19 is right around the corner – how exciting to have that finish line in sight!

I would love a 9 day week! Only if I could make sure only 4 of those days are spent working. But if I had some extra time to devote to my hobbies, gahhhh, that would be amazing.

My best friend and I started a podcast in 2022 and we do it for the pure fun of it. It is making us no money and we don’t have a ton of listeners, but we keep on because we enjoy the process and what it brings to our friendship.
