1- This morning was so smooth! Lately the kids have been a bit . . . difficult in the morning. Everyone is tired, everyone is ready for school to be over (just counted: there are 20 school days left!), and yet — the demands are all still there! Yesterday was an absolute disaster, but today? Today was amazing. For some reason, G woke up on her own at 6:15. I was finishing my Headspace so she came and sat quietly with me (if you know G, this is . . . atypical) and then went to read in her room. I helped A with something school related, and then everyone had a peaceful breakfast together.
A did G’s hair in a very cute braid and everyone was ACTUALLY READY TO LEAVE at 7:35. Everyone had the right outfit on (C had swim). There wasn’t even much fighting about music in the car. No one had to run into the house for a forgotten lunch bag or pair of glasses. It was miraculous, and it also means IT IS POSSIBLE. Now I just have to figure out what I did right, because honestly I have no idea.
2- I am doing well putting things on the calendar that I actually look forward to. May is filled with nice things, and June is shaping up too! Social things, phone calls, friend meet-ups, etc. I even have two book club sessions coming up (at least in theory, I am not entirely sure I will be able to finish both books, though I do have plane rides coming up that will provide a good stretch of time to make some significant progress).
3- The weather has been nicer than usual for a longer time than usual. I complain a lot about the hot and stormy half of the year here so I should reciprocally state that things have been better than average lately. No matter what the summer brings, it has been nice to enjoy a decent spring.

4- I AM ON TOP OF MY INBOX. And it feels amazing. New tentative inbox clearing cadence:
- every Wednesday
- every Sunday, prior to my weekly planning
I think this will prevent it from becoming super overwhelming at either checkpoint. OF COURSE things will still be challenging when on vacation / on call / etc and I don’t expect that I will “never get behind again!” or anything silly like that, but I think I did sort of start to struggle when Thurs/Fridays both became full clinical work days.
5- About to do this class and looking forward to it:

Honestly, I never really looked forward to yoga since my ~2010 phase when I used to go live, but it’s really nice and peaceful and kind of mind-clearing.

A smooth morning this late in the school year???? Amazing!
Having a clean inbox is my #1 sanity saver. It’s nice/easier for my person email, but it’s a non negotiable for work. I literally can’t function if my work inbox is out of control.
Well, I’m glad that you’ve got the above 5 positive things going on, Dr. Sarah Hart-Unger. I know I write a list of the people and the things that I’m grateful for each week, so I think that you must also always write a list of things that you’re grateful for or a list of positive things and that you cannot write such lists any less frequently than I do.
Those moments are such a joy when they happen! I feel like we’ve flip-flopped recently. It used to be my daughter that was hard to rouse, but now she sets an alarm and does her own thing. Our tween son is discovering the joys of sleeping in (on weekdays, of course – he has no trouble waking up on weekends). He has to be woken VERY carefully or the wheels fall off our proverbial morning. It’s ironic since he was always an early waker.
This morning he was awake when I came out and the morning went wonderfully. Fingers crossed we can make it a streak of 2 tomorrow morning. Hoping the same for you.
Maybe the kids also subconsciously didn’t enjoy yesterday morning being a “disaster”, and somehow pulled it together today? I’ll be interested to see what tomorrow brings. Maybe you’ll have smooth sailing till the end of the year??? The countdown is definitely on.
You’re right, the weather hasn’t been horrible. There seems to be a frequent breeze, which keeps it from getting too muggy. Maybe it will stay like this all summer- hahahahahaha. Just kidding. We’re already seeing some late afternoon rainstorms.
I hope you enjoyed the yoga class!
Yay for having a great morning with the kids! I LOVE Aditi’s Flow and Let it Go.
Smooth! Morning! Woot woot! Mornings are The Worst, so I am super happy for you and I hope the pattern continues.
I get irritated by how hot and humid it gets here in the summer, but it’s been so rainy lately that today I *rejoiced* in the heat and humidity because it was at least sunny and dry. (And it wasn’t terribly hot, to be honest.) Gotta celebrate the good weather when it happens!
