I can’t believe I just bought pens
I KNOW. You’ve seen my pen drawer. But I ran out of Jetstream 0.5 pens (the standalone ones, not the 3-color – they write differently!), and they have really become my ballpoint of choice lately. PLUS, I’m in a mood. And so, a jetpens order was placed. Can I help it if I ordered the world’s cutest stamp set to go with them?
I have actually been very very restrained when it comes to buying things lately! I usually blow through my allowance monthly, but here we are at the end of July and I have ~1.5 month’s worth built up in there! (Part of this is that I used to spend a big chunk on running-related training / gear / supershoes– and I have definitely stopped doing that). I also have gift cards I seem to be hoarding in an atypical fashion.
I’m not sure what that is about but it does feel nice to hold on to the possibility of later spending — perhaps even nicer than a purchase would feel in any given moment, so maybe . . . that’s part of it.
Feeling tense
In other news and as previously mentioned, I’m in a #mood. I will try to channel it into things other than buying pens. I am already looking forward to this weekend — kids will be home and unlike last weekend when I was on call, I feel like I will be able to focus on them. I feel like of bad that I couldn’t last time.
We just got the gym schedule and next year A will have Saturday practice (!). This is actually quite a good thing because it removes some weeknight pressure, though I anticipate she may end up filling most of her free evenings with dance classes if the schedules work out. We will find that out on Friday. Schedule tetris season begins, though with a bit less complexity without club soccer (for now — C is hopefully going to do school sports so we will see what that entails).

Coming off call, even when it is shorter, probably always negatively impacts your mood! And then add in other things and it’s easy for your mood to suffer. I think stationery purchases are a good mood booster. You know you will use them!
We are going to have more schedule Tetris than usual this fall because Paul is starting piano lessons. The challenge is that he does seasonal sports but we don’t know the days which stresses me out. Piano is not flexible and I feel more strongly about him doing piano than my husband does… but I am the traveler so we have the sticky situation of me feeling strongly about him doing an activity that I can’t take him to half the time…. But virtual lessons are an option so maybe he will do a virtual lesson when I am traveling. 🤷🏻♀️
I felt really stressed before we left on holiday and bought myself a little pocket planner, because that makes everything better?
School starts in less than 3 weeks and I’m doing a bit of schedule Tetris. My parents usually come visit for a week each in the autumn and I asked them to stay for 10 days each just to buy us a bit of help. We just have 1 kid and not as many activities but I’ll be away Sunday, Monday nights and back late Tuesdays, and in another office for a secondment on Wednesdays. We only have wraparound Monday-Wednesday, with breakfast Thursday-Friday (and noon release on Fridays). And I keep forgetting I’ve got at least 3 to be scheduled train trips in the autumn. T has scouts Monday, my husband has Tennis immediately after, and then forest school Fridays but we trade off taking the kids with our friends.
I want to shop in your stationary drawer!
My boyfriend actually said to me “I’ve never bought a pen in my entire life.”
Opposites. Attract.
Hope you’re having a Fab Thursday!
I am at the opposite end of the spectrum and it seems like literally all my pens and markers are running out at the same time so I NEED to buy some pens.
Zero judgement. As “addictions” go, this is about as practical and fun as it gets.
I absolutely use stationary purchases as a coping mechanism too- at least you have your podcast as an excuse! So far only my 8 year old has activities, and I’m pleased that they are now well spread out across the week right now. Not looking forward to the Tetris of older kids! Hopefully you can relax now call is over and enjoy some time with the kids.
Well, you needed pens! And those stamps are very cute. Lots of worse things you could be spending money on.
Now that I just have one kid at home for the school year, scheduling is so much easier. I do have a couple things coming up and am impatiently waiting to get the marching band/football schedule so I can plan. But that’s pretty much it! Having one kid is about 100x easier than three.
I feel like I just looking at the NYTimes headlines is enough to induce a panicked shopping spree. At least pens and stamps are a relatively affordable and innocuous coping strategy.
I am on vacation, with two kids, in luteal phase, so I e been buying things left and right. Food and skin are mainly since both are amazing in France. Skincare I will use for sure, and food will be eaten. Also bought myself a sweater that I loved except it was at a rest stop when switching cities yesterday. The rest stop looked like Macys paired with Panera. I’ll take it 🙂
I just bought three new pens because I can NEVER find a pen when I need one… and I have no idea where they are. Sigh.
Those stamps are delightful.
I am shuddering at the mention of fall schedule Tetris. I only have the one kid and it’s still such a challenge!
The stamps!! So cute. I loosely know that our fall schedule Tetris will work (I didn’t spend HOURS playing Tetris as a kid for nothing). But I don’t have all the details actively in my head yet. My kids keep asking about various activities, and I just cannot answer the questions yet. That is future Lauren’s problem!!
RegaHow will having Saturday practice impact A’s weekly routine, and do you think her free evenings might end up filled with dance classes once the schedules are finalized?

yes, most likely!
