5 on a Friday (plus TS!)

August 15, 2025

1- Frugal Girl (Kristen) is starting her RN orientation! It has been absolutely amazing and inspiring to see her build her nursing career from scratch in her 40s. I think her personality is SUCH a perfect fit for nursing and I know she will be amazing.

2- Elisabeth started a Patreon page where she’s going to share more interactive content, more personal content, and the like. I joined!! Excited to see what she shares there.

3- It really is (the very start of) Planner Season, and I am here for it. I am getting the itch to do a few more old school planner reviews on BLP this fall. Is there a brand I haven’t hit recently? I have my eye on Colibri and I am probably due for a more complete review of Laurel Denise. Another interesting contender: the Japanese brand NOLTY which seems to be more widely available each year.

(Related note: I am very nervous about how the smaller planner businesses will do with the tariffs this year. Prices are definitely going to go up, but that is not under their control.)

4- RANDOM: I was going to buy a new Apple Watch because mine (from 2021) seems to run out of charge around 6 pm every day (and having the ECG feature available is really important to me now!). But then I realized I could probably just have the battery replaced! I don’t see DIYing it but apparently there are local places offering this service for a fraction of the cost of a new watch. Will report back on this much cheaper endeavor.

5- I need to plan Q4. This weekend, I think I might re-watch my own old Planning By Season video from 2024 and do it with . . . myself. (I mean, this would also be for research reasons — see what I’d like to change, etc.)

6- BONUS #6 — I mean obviously I’ve been following the TS news!! I haven’t listened to/watched the podcast she recorded yet as I was saving it for a treat this weekend.

can’t wait for October 3rd!

Yes to getting batteries replaced on electronics! I’ve done it for iphones and Macbooks, and it is a game changer. You just drop your device off at the store for a few hours and then you get it back in like new condition. There are a million places that offer this service.

Thanks for the battery idea! I’m still using my 2019 AW but sometimes run into the same issue (depends how often I use it on a particular day). Last week I thought it had entirely stopped charging but it turned out it was a charging cord issueso I’m back to using it. I’m going to look into battery replacement — I hadn’t considered that!

Planner season! I’m here for your planner reviews. I’ve been happy with my At-A-Glance planner this year, but it doesn’t feel very… luxurious. I mean, it does everything I need it to do but I think I would have more fun with slightly higher quality.
I have yet to formally plan Q4. I can’t fully plan until I get dates from other people, sigh. It’s hard to get everyone on board- certain family members can’t understand why I would be asking them about dates in September and October. IT IS COMING RIGHT UP, PEOPLE.

I listened to the TS podcast and loved it! I may watch it as well—it was such a cool insight into her life, and I appreciated the insight she gives. Also can’t wait for the new album! Sounds like quite a collaboration.

Thanks for the latest podcast on back to school. Just what I needed to think through our next few weeks. Hope the transition is going well for your family!

I second watching it! Her relaxed nature and smiles and interactions with Travis and Jason were such a treat to witness.

Yes! The visuals added so much. “This is my first podcast!”. I honestly sat there rapt for the whole 2 hrs.

          SAME!

Let me know how the battery replacement goes. Mine tends to die if I run or do a lot of walking during the day. The more active I am, the worse it is for the battery. I have only had that issue in the last couple of months and I think I got mine back in 2023!

I’m looking forward to listening to the TS podcast as well!

I have been wanting to watch/listen to that podcast. Life is hectic for the next few days but that will just make the anticipation all the more exciting.

Thanks for the shout-out for my Patreon. I’m excited to see where it leads and you’ve been such a huge motivator, role model, and supporter since I started this whole blogging thing! <3
