Let the TG BREAK Begin.
My kids have been off all week, but I worked the past two days (Monday at home, Tuesday seeing patients) so I feel like I am just feeling ‘free’ as of this morning.
Not going to lie, we have not eased in very gently. At least 2/3 kids were STIR CRAZY last night and I am very much hoping that things improve. After several warnings, I switched off the movie we were watching and basically told everyone to go to bed and anticipate a screen-free lifestyle until I see that everyone can consistently be nice to one another and not act — well, LIKE THAT. This may not seem like it makes sense, but I honestly often feel it IS THE SCREENS (and especially video games / short form frenetic video) that contributes to them acting the way they were acting, so it’s not just an arbitrary choice.
I know it’s always hard for my kids to adjust from school –> vacation and it doesn’t help that they were home for two days while I was dealing with the stress of work. Our nanny has had some very hard things happening in her family so that added a layer of difficulty over those days (side note: she will be away until December 8, which is absolutely understandable but is not going to be a cakewalk around here, so I am sure I was carrying some extra stress as well).
But anyway: today is a new day. I feel grateful to be done with clinical work until Tuesday, and don’t plan on doing too much on the creative side, either — I have a couple of specific projects but I will assign them time slots so I’m not thinking about them all the time.
SO: what will we do on this now low tech day? It remains to be seen, but likely something outdoors. The pool is heated so that’s an option. Also, the library is open. I may allow a little bit of supervised internet browsing so that C can make his Hanukkah wish list (I think the girls already did theirs).
Oh and I have to make pies but Josh has to work until late and I need him to shape the crust (it’s his official job and I am not nearly as good at it) so . . . yeah. At least I can sleep in tomorrow.
. . . and the winner is:
Sarah S!

Sarah, I will email you as soon as I hit “publish”. I hope you love the H&O (maybe it will lead to someone you love inheriting the “Kristy”!)

Our kids were WILD yesterday and they both had school and no screens. So I think it’s just holiday anticipation. But they were so loud and there was so much redirection of behavior which made my husband and I VERY CRABBY. They are off today but our before/after care program provides care today so they are on a field trip to Grand Slam which will probably not help w/ their wild behavior. Hopefully things normalize a bit. They were hyper this morning because it snowed and they were out-of-their-minds excited. But we got rain that turned to slush that turned to snow so it’s not the kind of snow you can play in, nor did we get much. And the feels like temp this am was 7F. But I’m ok w/ snow especially since we are not traveling. I’m praying to the weather Gods that we have sleddable snow on 12/6 – that’s when we are hosting our 5yo’s bday party. It will be much more pleasant if we can go sledding as an activity rather than having 6 LOUD 4-5 year olds in our house. Eeks.
Happy Thanksgiving to you! I hope you enjoy the heck out of your key lime pie!!
