Big Sky > Bozeman Dispatch: Day #5

December 28, 2025

Our trip was a Monday to Sunday affair, 7 days total but 2/7 were travel days. For us this is perfect — I feel ready to head back even though the trip was relaxing and fun.

Day #5 was our final ski day BUT with a twist — we had to drive back to Bozeman and stay in a hotel near the airport because I was too late (at the end of June) to get a room in Big Sky.

BUT, it worked out okay! We did a few ski runs as a family (and took our traditional Big Sky sign pic!) but then the snow was really coming down and after one run with white-out conditions, we decided to call it a day around 12:30.

this year!
last year!!!! Same outfits . . . better weather . . . we should have stood in the same order!!

We stopped at the shops where I bought my 3rd Big Sky T-shirt (I guess it’s a collection now) and G got an awesome fleece blanket with the trail maps on it. Then we headed out to Bozeman — in the snow! It took about 90 minutes instead of the usual ~70 but the scenery was gorgeous.

I did my best to capture it and mostly failed but you can kind of get an idea . . .

We had a super late lunch/dinner (linner? it was like 3:30-4pm) at Bourbon BBQ which was fun. And then we checked into our hotel (near the airport) and had a totally lazy evening of watching TV.

Josh and I gave up on trying to make everyone watch the same thing, and ended up letting the kids pick their own entertainment while we finished the last 3 (maybe 4?) episodes of The Pitt.

And now as I type this it’s our day to journey home! We have a 1 pm flight so today will be pretty relaxed and hopefully we will not get stuck in Chicago again (but if we do, I will be far less panicked about it because I do not have a strict deadline looming on Monday!).

Overall this trip has been fantastic – I have no notes and I think the kids really enjoyed it too — some more than others but overall they really are happy on this trip and I have grown to love the familiarity of it all, as you can probably tell! (Josh noted that Big Sky is now our most repeated destination as a family other than Philadelphia though in order for this to be strictly true, you’d have to count Disney as separate from Universal and not lump them all into Orlando 🙂 ).

So glad you and the family had a great time! I agree — snow and wintertime can be magical. Thank you for the reminder to book our summer travel asap.
