5 on a Friday: Morning Drama + V-Day tidbits

February 13, 2026

After a totally uneventful procedure yesterday, I had a run of (SLOW) VT this morning. It was an uneventful morning until I felt weird chest/neck sensations while showering, came out and put my watch on, and saw this:

no one wants to see this on their watch

Our nanny was still here (she drives the kids on Fridays currently due to my new clinic location) and I ran out of the bathroom (in a robe thankfully) and was like “UM I THINK I’M STUCK IN AN ARRHYTHMIA” but once I sat on the couch it went back to mostly normal. I did not get shocked, probably because the rate was nice and low. Which is good, since I definitely didn’t need to be shocked!

So, that was . . . a morning. I guess that was my little Friday the 13th adventure? I am SURE it was related to yesterday (low potassium? long-delayed anesthetic afer-effect?). ANYWAY I will for sure load up on LMNT next time.

Things fully resolved and I headed to work and I have felt basically normal.

5 Things: 3 V-Day Notes, 1 Music Rec

1- Valentine’s Day, part 1! We will be doing our annual V-day treasure hunt tomorrow — probably the 10th year running in our household, at least! I need to stop on the way home for small presents for 2/3 kids, though (Jellycat order is currently lost in space and another kid said they did not want a Jellycat and requested an alternative).

2- Valentine’s Day, part 2! I booked a ‘test out’ class at Club Pilates for Saturday morning. I am not confident I will pass the test, but I do feel pretty good doing everything in the 1.5 classes right now (and I usually take whatever ‘extra challenges’ they offer) so I figure . . . if I fail, it can only be useful information! I am totally okay with a fail. But if I pass, that gives me more booking options and more challenges.

3- Valentine’s Day, part 3! We made a dinner reservations for V-day . . . yesterday. And for all 5 of us! G has been complaining that ‘she never got a birthday dinner’ (she had a school party AND a regular party, though – def not deprived!) so we are going to make good on that a mere 6 days before C’s bday at Benihana. I guess Benihana does not have a romantic enough atmosphere to book it up though we did have to take an early time slot. (BUT FUN FACT – Josh and I had our first date at a hibachi restaurant — which appears to be still open and may not have changed their website since we ate there in 2002).

(C will actually be having a pretty epic bday dinner, will post about that next week after it happens!)

4- Valentime’s Day, part 4! Our house is filled with See’s candy (THANK YOU to the kind relatives who have sent some!) and I could not be happier about that. Maybe it will last us until April?! We tend to ration them (ie, each person gets one and only one per night) but with 5 household candy eaters the burn rate is still substantial. I suppose I COULD purchase See’s other times of the year, but I feel like that would ruin the novelty/fun.

5- New music: We are allowed to like Taylor AND CharliXCX right? If not, whatever, I will/do anyway. After hearing about it on All Songs Considered, I just listened to the Wuthering Heights soundtrack (pretty much all CharliXCX) and love it.

There is a song about one NOT being the loneliest number which made me think of (my personal goddess) Aimee Mann. I will be interested to hear what A thinks of it (she liked brat but this is definitely a different style).

Yikes! I am glad you came out of it quickly. I’m thinking it is probably due to dehydration? It is hard to stay hydrated when prepping for a colonoscopy! I hope you don’t have any other residual issues!

We do basically nothing for Valentine’s Day in our house. The kids get gifts from their grandparents and they have a small treat-free celebration at school but that’s it. I will probably get them a treat of some sort this weekend and call it good enough. I worked in a restaurant in college and kind of hated Valentine’s Day. I mean it was good for tips, but was otherwise not a fun night because people would be pissy about the long wait times for a table. Like what did you expect?? I love that you do a scavenger hunt!
