All Good :)

February 12, 2026

Just checking in, in case anyone was worried!

None of that was fun (particularly night before) but it is now over! And no terrible results. They removed a couple things that will probably mean follow up in 5 years but I’ll take it!

And hey, that makes me feel like the effort was worth something, you know? I feel lucky and glad I did it, especially with the recent very sad losses of James van der Beek and Catherine O’Hara (both colon cancer related, apparently).

Get your preventative screenings, everyone! If I can do it, anyone can (I get A LOT of anxiety around these types of things in case you couldn’t tell.)

PS: What did I choose as my entertainment during this ordeal? I probably should have picked some feel-good option, but my sister recommended Euphoria and I got sucked in.

TRIGGER WARNINGS: very dark, sad, drugs, scary behavior in kids, lots of not-appropriate-for-children content. Honestly basically every trigger warning.

but somehow it worked for me

Onward + upward and THRILLED not to have to think about doing that again until at least 2031!

PPS: I am jealous of all of you that had amazing post-procedure naps. Somehow mine only lasted an hour or so, and then I couldn’t fall back asleep? I am totally tired, though. Will definitely go to bed early.

I don’t know what everyone is talking about with the sleep thing either. After anesthesia I just feel weird because I’m waking up without remembering going to sleep. Once I’m awake, I’ve felt pretty normal, especially after a short procedure.

Welcome to the Cool Bloggers’ Colonoscopy Club! The club that no one wants to join but everyone is glad once they do. I had a pretty foggy head after mine, and I will have to get a follow up in three years, but it sure beats the alternative if you know what I mean.

I took not one, but TWO lovely naps s/p d&c on Monday. I suspect you didn’t bc a screening colonoscopy is often shorter (less anesthesia —> less post procedure sleepiness, I didn’t nap after my colonoscopy either…) but it’s also possible the nap happened bc I got opioids and many people getting colonoscopies do not (some do, but it’s less common). I also get nervous for procedures. Also Dr appts, just less so. But yay for getting it done! Good job, Sarah!

nope, no narcotics. I was pretty darn lucid honestly – I don’t REMEMBER specifics, but i heard them talk about the result and then in recovery i quoted it it to the nurse and she was like “wow, wait you heard all that?” and i was like yes . . .

all that said, the anesthesia worked great bc even though i had that weird awareness, i didn’t care in the least 🙂 (similar happened to me with at least one of my cardiac caths. i remember being awake in there like “oh cool they are in my heart” and not minding whatsoever. . .)

AND, i hope your procedure went well and that you are healing ok. that has to be a lot to go through.

Yay for the colo being done! I’ve ordered a lot of colonoscopies, but I am so unexcited about mine in a few years…but also love the idea of cancer screening etc. Preventative screenings and HCM do work wonders.

A colleague from overseas watched Euphoria a few years back and looked traumatized after I asked her what she thought.

it is a bit of a traumatizing show. It’s well done, AND it’s devastatingly depressing/sad.

Hooray! My grandma had colon cancer, which probably could have been treated way earlier but she refused to get any colonoscopies. I just had one last year and the prep SUCKED but it was good to get the all clear. I have to do them every 5 years with my family history, blergh. Next time, I’m asking for anti-nausea meds because the nausea from not eating was the worst.
