May does not necessarily seem like the wisest month to choose for daily blogging, but Kae and Jenny are doing it and I could use a nice distracting ‘project’ so here we are.
TODAY SO FAR I HAVE:
- Audited/budgeted May YNAB. Glad to be done. And OMG I think we set a category record in Kids Activities! I do anticipate this will calm down a bit over the summer, but wow. One fun reason for this is that that C just signed up to start School of Rock, playing guitar — the genre is 70s Glam Rock, of all things! He’s really musical but never really did anything consistently so I’m excited for him to have this experience, which includes both a lesson and group practice weekly. (He’s also doing it with a school friend which is really nice.)
- Bought a lot of plane tickets with points. Josh and I have a couples trip coming up — it will be really nice to have that time together with everything going on, though we planned it a while back. Really, it’s to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary WITHOUT kids, and then we will celebrate all over again WITH kids in Hawaii. Anyway, I found a decent point conversion on JetBlue, and also found a reasonable points deal to PHL for July 4th (tradition). Booking flights and not spending any actual money is honestly quite thrilling. One of my goals this year was to work on my points and miles game, and I do think I’ve gradually improved my ability to get more value out of my credit card spending.
- Taken G to tennis, and A/G/A’s friend to Ross + Target. A got a denim skirt I would have loved at her age. Tennis was great — there’s enough time to take a sizeable walk while she’s there, and then I watch at the end.
- Booked a week of summer camp horseback riding camp for G. Josh’s aunt owns a horse ranch ~10 minutes from our house that does lessons + day camps and both of the big kids went when they were younger. Neither of them ride anymore, but G has decided to try it! Camp spreadsheet is 90% complete — there’s one week I am debating putting G in something because otherwise she’ll have a 2.5 week gap of doing nothing after our trip, but not sure. I can tell it’s all going to go FAST — there are only 9 weeks of summer this year for us, and at least 2 of them will be traveling.
- Changed my screen backgrounds. Because it’s MAY!

We are going to head back to Miami Beach to hang with Josh’s dad either today or tomorrow, so plans are up in the air. (We might go see Project Hail Mary if we end up choosing tomorrow).
Otherwise on the agenda . . .
- go through the accumulated disaster-pile on my desk (it’s not that bad but need to be . . . dealt with
- CG #30!! (will be DONE with IRON Round #2. Not doing it again, I need a break from Caroline. But it’s such a solid program.)
That’s about it. ♥️ Very much just appreciating being here, having normal regular ol’ weekend life with family.

Omg those notifications at the bottom of your screen!! 🙈🙈🙈 I am super anal about not having any red notification dots. They drive me crazy for some reason!! So I always clear them out. 🤪
A couples trip sounds great especially with everything you’ve been through lately. Phil and I will need to go to Chicago in June for the deposition so I am hoping to make it somewhat fun/enjoyable since it’s rare for us to travel together especially without the kids (who will be staying with my parents).
Same! I can’t get past seeing those, I feel it’s a part of inbox zero for me 😃 I even archive conversations in apps like Facebook messenger once there’s nothing pending so it feels clutter-free when I open the app.
So Apple stopped letting me get rid of them after some update (even when I select mark all as read) so then I stopped caring 😂 it’s none of the ones up top. I have definitely stopped seeing it.
Oh wow! My brain immediately went to trying to solve this for you but I’m glad it’s an invisible thing to you now!
PS I loved Project Hail Mary! It’s worth the big screen experience, and I see so few films.
I think you’re right that in theory May is not the best “blog every day” month, but from a distraction perspective, it’s gold! I always liked May because it means that summer is getting close, but it’s also a very chaotic month with the end of school.
Plus from a selfish perspective, I want the daily posts!!!
Travel hacking is one of the most satisfying experiences that I’ve had in recent years. I have an event in Chicago in May and I used it as a springboard to build a really fun week. I’m going to take my first Amtrak trip (where I live the trains depart at 3:00 AM, which is not an hour that I want to be awake, but in CHI where I have to go anyway the departures are during the day). Anyways, Amtrak is all points, and I found a stupid sweet deal with Hyatt for my stay in CHI which is also all points. Booyah!!!
I just booked our Maui –> Kauai flights for 5K points each! It’s so satisfying when you get a good deal! And Hyatt is so great with the Chase transfers. We have a Hyatt-based trip coming up that I never would have spent the $ for but it was doable on points 🙂
Welcome to MayBloPoMo! It’s funny that we’re all (or, the three of us) are like “May is not a great month to do this but I’m doing it anyway!”
Wow- CG #30! I’m currently on #15. Right now I’m planning to do the same thing you did- do it for two rounds (possibly-hopefully- increasing the weights a little the second time through) and then I’ll definitely need a break as well. What are you doing next???
