Weekend

Saturday with No Notes

May 17, 2026

Yesterday was so nice. Really, it was one of those days that felt like what I pictured this phase of life to be like.

(Please note: there are plenty of days that DO NOT live up to an idealized vision!)

C scored a goal in his game and I’m not even sure what the final score was but it was a nice end to the season. G DID manage to procure a frozen treat.

After that, C headed to a birthday party + guitar lesson (Josh went with him + dropped off) while I took G to the pool. I chatted with some friends and then read a ton of Yesteryear, and she met some (new) friends and had a lot of fun both in and out of the pool. She joined a posse of kids that were finding the tiiiiiniest frogs.

We were there for 2 hours and then went home; I picked up C while Josh got some dinner ingredients. He made cheesesteaks while I read more of Yesteryear and then we all watched Remarkably Bright Creatures after dinner.

We all really liked it (not that common for our fam!). The author (Shelby Van Pelt) was my friend when I lived back in Durham so it felt extra special to watch. (But I would have loved it regardless — recommend!).

ANYWAY. What a lovely day. I also just found out that the Belle & Sebastian concert we are headed to tonight will feature If You’re Feeling Sinister in its entirety and now I am doubly excited.

PS: HAPPY BIRTHDAY SARAH J!!

I love those full weekend days that also contain reading and relaxation! Sounds like a great day.

Sarah — do you think Remarkably Bright Creatures would be appropriate for an 8 and 10 yo? I want to see it but debating if it could be a family movie for us or not!

Yes I do! There is a sad story line but nothing otherwise objectionable in my opinion!

I totally believe you that not every Saturday goes this well- so it’s nice to appreciate it when it does.
I just bought Yesteryear! I was like #288 in line at the library, and I was returning a book to Barnes and Noble so just decided to buy it. I cant wait to see if it lives up to the hype.
