I cannot overemphasize how amazing it was that Kae was willing to hop on a plane (2 planes actually, the Madison –> south FL flights are lacking) and hang out with me all weekend.
Her post has more pictures and better detail (she is a far better and more detailed ‘recapper’!) so I will direct you there to see what we were up to all weekend!
For those of you who don’t know Kae, she is a very close friend of mine and someone I text constantly and tell pretty much everything. We also very alike in many ways despite our 8″ height gap and the fact that she does most of her planning digitally and I am Team Analog. Oh, and I am an ESFJ in the MBPI and she is ISFJ.
(But I mean, she is a very personable and “extroverted introvert”, as she describes it, which makes sense).
ANYWAY, we had a super fun weekend doing very little worth remaking on. Basically we hung out and chatted and I got to show her my “IRL” life, which I think was pretty much the same as what she was expecting 🙂
Some selected pix:

We went to my gym on Sunday – a little LA fitness leg day, where I learned how to properly use the bar without the Smith machine rack setup.

Post workout:

After that was our awesome Jenny meetup, and then we headed back to watch the World Cup! We were both rooting for Argentina (well really, Messi) but had fun despite the loss.
(It looks like I’m pushing C forward but I was actually kind of petting his head because I love how it feels post haircut. Ha!)

The first night (out of order here, sorry!) we headed out to Blue Ginger for sushi and other delicacies – my kids always love this place because there is a bar with ‘sushi boats’ circling where you take what you want and tally the plates after. I think everyone liked it!

We also took some walks outside and managed to clean up for our ‘adult’ dinner Sunday after the game:

We shared a whole bunch of stuff (steak! squid ink pasta! a pastry-wrapped meatball!) and as usual we finished with tiramisu:

The entire visit was honestly a blast. Not shown above: a home workout and a TJs trip. Plus lots of kid antics (though A entertained G a lot, Josh held down the court at home, and we had a lot of kid-free time!). I think “have your long distance BFF over and just hang in a totally low key way” is a VERY UNDERRATED EXPERIENCE and I can’t wait to do it again in Wisconsin (next year)!
I am definitely feeling overall at peace with the unexpected direction this summer has taken us, and this visit was a huge silver lining.
THANK YOU AGAIN KAE!!!!

I am so glad you had this time together. You really needed a pick-me-up after the rough series of months you’ve had. I love low key weekend get togethers like this when it’s all about catching up and less about sightseeing (sightseeing is fun, too, but it’s nice to not feel pressured to entertain someone).
I might try to crash your fall 2027 WI trip. 😉
What amazing friends! Such care. And I love how big Kae’s smile is in the photo of you lifting. It’s like she’s saying, “You got this, Sarah!”. Thank you both for sharing.
Yay, this makes me so happy… Kae came to visit AND you all got to hang out with Jenny! What a treat. I am so glad you could all make that happen.
So fun! And look who is out of the house – here’s hoping your upward trajectory continues!
Yay Kae! Great friends are the best.
