Time Log Analysis + 2 Momentous Purchases

June 4, 2026

I do not consider myself an underbuyer.

BUT. I wear scrubs 3-7 days per week, almost every week. I mean it’s usually 3 — the 7 is only on full call weeks, but — they happen, and I have one later this month.

So, I could probably stand to own more than 3 pairs total. I currently have green, purple and navy in rotation.

IT WAS TIME YOU GUYS!!!!

I ordered the colors + styles above since they are theoretically copies of ones I own and fit me well (though I have had color-to-color size variation with FIGS before. Hopefully nothing too bad here.)

AND THEN I ALSO ORDERED SOCKS because I’m wearing Balega running socks that have to be at least 10 years old and one of them actually has little hole in it and that is just unacceptable.

So maybe sometimes I am a bit of an underbuyer. But now I have lulu socks AND new scrubs on the way and will look forward to this mini wardrobe refresh, even if it isn’t the world’s most exciting.

In other news, I fed my time log to ChatGPT. My goal WAS NOT to get amazing AI generated insights, but just to have someone do the tedious categorization and computation work for me. (Of course, Chat could not help sharing some insights. I mean I did not explicitly tell it NOT to expound on the data.)

It was not earth shattering, but I guess it was interesting?

Note: this is a little messy as “admin” comprised both work-admin (ie, writing a letter of recommendation, work email) and life-admin. Clinically, on this particular week I had 3 full patient days ~8:30-5 but there was one of those (Friday) that had something like 4 no-shows.

Why yes, I did spend 5 hours watching Euphoria. Not enough piano time, and I’m pretty darn sure my blog time is undercounted here (sometimes it’s just a quick check that wouldn’t make it onto the log, I guess).

Chat noted that my evenings are fragmented (duh) and then informed it was surprised as how much time I spent driving and exercising. (I was not surprised about either of those things, which I guess is to be expected; the exercise includes weights, Pilates, and walking).

It also noted that family time was probably undercounted because things got lumped into “meals” or “household”. Overall though I found seeing it listed out like this somewhat useful and will try it again with next week’s data.

DO I FEEL LIKE TRACKING helped me use time a little better? Maybe??

I am not committing to this forever, but it’s a fun experiment for now.

Yay for new scrubs. I mean, it’s work attire but at least the colors make it fun? (I was just saying to Jon how lucky I am that I can wear casual attire to work EVERY SINGLE DAY.
Also yes to new socks: I love Balega, but they’re expensive … I currently have a set of Under Armour (black) socks that I like.

I also thought that you spent A LOT of time driving. Wondering if there’s a way to outsource some of the driving? Is it mostly activity related? I spent about 15 hours a week driving in my pre-medicine life commuting in Chicago and it was truly soul sucking.

As for exercise, I feel like I exercise a lot and it’s still probably only 5 hours per week at most. Thank you for sharing so that I feel less guilty about prioritizing it. You would be so proud of me — today I spontaneously woke up at 5:20, so I decided to go for a run. It felt decent physically probably because I went *really* slow, but BOY did it help my brain. Thinking that as I recover from surgery, maybe a similar plan (except with walking) may help prevent me from going insane.

I like smartwool socks. I usually get three new pairs a year. You can too. 🙂

some of it’s work (both sites are ~30 min from where i live in opposite directions), some of it’s school (‘on the way’ to work, but it adds 30 min w the 2 drop-offs), some of it’s activities, and we did go to miami beach over the weekend (not uncommon) which was 2 hours right there! And I actually only drive to school two mornings a week right now!!
