It wasn’t Hawaii – but it was fun!
We chose to stay at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point in Bonita Springs for several reasons:
- there is basically a water park on property (huge water slides!)
- it’s less than 2 hours away (just north of Naples)
- lots of friends told me kids would love it
- CHASE/HYATT POINTS! The point redemption seemed pretty decent (20K points/night per room) so I emptied out my Chase coffers into Hyatt and went for it. (Note for fellow points nerds: I have the Sapphire Preferred and we all know it’s going to be pricier for us non-Reserve members to transfer to Hyatt in the future, but that hasn’t taken effect yet.)
We decided on 3 nights, Sunday –> Wednesday so that I could take just one day of PL.
I don’t think you all need a full recap because we didn’t DOOOOO all that much! We mostly ate on property, enjoyed the pools, and had a spa treatment (Josh + me). Josh and I did head to the bar for a brief adults only date one night too, which was lovely.

Oh, and I went on every water slide. They were actually pretty fun and the kids were pleased.
We honestly didn’t DO much, but we enjoyed all the luxurious hotel amenities, good weather, and just hanging out. The kids also watched many episodes of Shark Tank on TV (vacation tradition) but otherwise devices were left at home. We talked about back to school and ate ice cream for lunch and relaxed.
It was not Hawaii, but it was nice! I would go to this hotel again (with $ or points – I think it’s a decent value either way honestly)!

Thank you for not posting the s’mores pit photo. That was very thoughtful of you. Pictures and videos of fire are still triggering for me, even though I’ve been working through exposure therapy. 😢
I am glad you had a mini getaway! This resort sounds awesome! We are getting to the stage where our kids love water parks. The climbing wall looks awesome, too. Have your kids watched Beast Master on Netflix? That’s Paul’s new obsession. It’s kind of like ninja warrior. I even enjoy it!
I’m really glad you and Josh got massages and fit in a date night. No, it’s not Maui, but I bet it lifted everyone’s spirits to go on a little getaway!

Hyatt points FTW! Also mini-vacations that are two hours from home FTW! Sometimes it’s just nice to have a break, and the exit and reentry are much easier when you don’t have to deal with a flight or a long drive.
Yes! I know not everyone loves Florida but I am quite thrilled with the number of great relatively local vacation destinations.
May be time to upgrade to a Reserve card! The Chase lounge at PHL is sooo nice. I got one this year for the elevated bonus but am going to have a hard time downgrading because we fly out of PHL so much…
I have AA lounge access right now (which I got for hawaii … womp womp). But maybe if I downgrade that ill get the reserve at some point!

They do but it’s not the best one ever- kind of doesnt move unless you paddle and is not a full loop. it does exist though!
This sounds really, really fun! Honestly, with kids I would prefer a vacation like this to something more adventurous (but much more work for you). One of my favorite vacations ever was when my kids were young and we went to Sarasota. We stayed at a hotel on the beach that had an amazing pool and waterslide, plus activities for the kids. SO fun and relaxing!!!

Sometimes you just need to get away for a non-intense, and hopefully low-stress, vacation. Your family certainly deserves that!
