Time Tracking Report: Tuesday (Day #2/7)

September 16, 2026

I guess we’re really doing this!

I’m going to stick with screenshots of my analog method with some notes/highlights vs a full descriptive format. Interestingly, today I had my planner out on my desk and I had like 3 separate people notice it with intrigue (I think mostly positive). This is a bit weird as I have it out all the time and this almost never happens, but maybe people like my current spread. So, I’ll share the lefthand side where I put my lists & various tracking that I do through the day!

THE TIME LOG:

Something to note: I got home at 9. This is likely going to be a theme for the week. Hopefully I will have enough stamina!

NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS:

  • This was a full patient day AND I had 2 residents (a 3rd year in the AM, 1st year in the PM). Residents are “work-neutral” to me. I enjoy having them; they do not generally speed things up OR slow them down. Once in a while a 3rd year will make things slightly more efficient (but it varies + depends on clinic flow).
  • I did brief ‘extras’ during my AM clinical session (little email check, 5 min of Duolingo, and then a quick post while waiting for my resident to finish with a patient). I never *count* on the ability to do these kinds of things on a clinical day, but usually there is room for them to happen in the cracks. (I do have a rule for myself that my EPIC inbox must be at a strict zero and all notes up to date before starting anything else! It’s actually quite motivating.)
  • This was a looooong day because it was 9th grade Back to School night! Josh and I went together which was kind of fun. I liked (almost all of) the teachers a lot, with my favorite probably being one with 38 (!!!) years of experience teaching math, all at the same school. Super cool.

THE OTHER SIDE OF THE PAGE (which provides more details about the day!):

Upper left: the day’s “hard landscape” schedule. (I didn’t include BTS night and A’s dance pickup there but I probably should have, if we were truly being complete!). Plus, my daily habit tracker (letters stand for Meditation, Outside, Read, Music, and Duolingo. I did not get to my Headspace yesterday!)

Lower left: media log – I’ve done this for ~2 yrs now and LOVE IT. It brings awareness to what I am consuming with my brain.

Upper right: to do list. Pen in place for privacy for an item or two!

Lower right: Patients –> I check them off when notes are done. Little hit of dopamine every time! Workout –> Self-explanatory. Yesterday I did an Empowered home lifting session (chest / shoulders / triceps from the September plan) and a walk mid-day that was hotter than I would have liked.

$: New section I’ve been toying with. (Park Ave is not some fancy hotel or restaurant but it is the name of the gymnastics gym, which as you might imagine is a frequent line item)

I used to track nutrition on a daily page too but since using CalAI I’ve stopped (plus, I put a lot of that macro data into my little health/fitness Weeks journal instead).

WHERE’S THE ROBOT SCHEDULE?

There was definitely no need for one since it was a clinical day! Time blocking doesn’t work when you have a fixed schedule already and unpredictable pockets of usable time and so I don’t do it.

Interesting and thanks for sharing! I think i want to do some time tracking but with the new school year our evening schedule is very different and I want a bit of time to just go through it and feel where the new pockets of time are so then I can look specifically at those slots and how my energy is. Like you, i will now have several later nights for kid activities and I know I might need to sleep later in the morning and it will impact my energy. Mostly, I am feeling the uncertainty. My husband’s work travel and commitments along with likely having to change my WFH/office schedule (not my choice) but those things are on my mind. It’s really the first week of the new schedule but i have been thinking about it so much. I feel like my mantra for this season will be ‘flexibility’ even though i want a plan!
