Weekend

Last Regular Weekend for A WHILE

October 3, 2026

Perusing my calendar I made the realization that this is the last “normal” weekend until December 5/6 (and honestly, Josh may have call and there’s an all-day robotics tournament in Miami, so I’m not entirely sure how regular that one truly is).

(That said, December right now looks delightfully chill, and I say that even with a full week of call Christmas week! Looks like we will have plenty of bandwidth to celebrate 9th and 52nd birthdays.)

But now until December is sort of nonstop and that is why I am currently savoring this weekend’s normalness.

TODAY

✅ G tennis (& walk)

✅ A gym drop-off

✅ C guitar drop-off (Josh is doing pickup!)

✅ Library book return

▶️ Organize G’s CLOTHING (first step in her Room Refresh!)

▶️ YNAB audit/budget for October

▶️ College reunion book page thing

▶️ Call fam

▶️ Laundry x 1 (not that bad but blah)

⭐️ Out to dinner with Josh and G (both big kids @ sleepovers!). She is going to love that . . .

OKAY. Deep breath + diving into her room project (with her, of course!). Maybe I’ll remember to take some before pix this time. . .

fun fall sighting on my walk!

PS: G wanted to stop at the playground after tennis and played for about 5 minutes. It occurred to me that I think we are nearing the tail end of playground era and I am not all that sad about it, though there were definitely some good cumulative memories. I guess you never know when you’re at the “LAST” of some things (I always think about this when I consider my last running race, ha. WAS NOT supposed to be my swan song . . . but you just never know).

About a year and a half ago my husband and I were at this nature preserve and there was the coolest playground… it briefly made me miss those days. But we get to do lots of other cool things now instead.

I’ve been thinking about this as I get rid of preschool stuff (youngest is 5 with a 6 year age gap between him and his nearest sibling) … I love having kids in different life stages, but as a mom I definitely prefer parenting older kids / teens. Not everyone feels that way, but it’s been eye-opening for me just how much easier it is to just … enjoy being a mom now. Does that sound terrible? I loved having babies, but I’m a happier mom now that my kids are older, and getting older every day. I won’t miss the little kid years — but I might miss the teen years. We’ll see!

Brad Paisley has a really cool song about this concept called “Last Time for Everything.” It’s a great song, and it really isn’t a sad song but it always makes me tear up a little bit. Definitely makes the case for savoring things. My oldest child is a senior in high school this year, and just turned 18. We definitely are going through a lot of “lasts.” But, there will be some cool “firsts,” too!
