Halloween: Better than expected!
Okay fine, I even managed to have some fun. A ended up staying home (she has a cold), C went to his friend’s house (Josh dropped off + picked up), and I handed out candy and walked around with G when Josh got back. I ended up chatting with several neighbors and felt warm fuzzy feelings about our neighborhood! I especially loved seeing those many decades removed from their own family trick or treat years getting into it — one guy proudly said “I’ve been handing out candy in this very spot for 25 years!”.
I even got my tradwife outfit out of the package.

ALSO: I was soooo hot in this costume, it was sweaty-humid out which is so typical SoFlo halloween.
We did not match, but that was okay. I continue to feel like Josh makes a very convincing prisoner.

G had a blast talking to everyone and issuing citations for unlicensed candy distributors (ha). And eating various items including the coveted Popcorn Ball (always handed out at a highly decorated house right near ours).

Decorations were pretty impressive!

At 8:15 it started raining and I was pretty thrilled. What a well-timed ending bell from mother nature, haha. We were pretty much out of candy by that point (we bought a bunch but started early!) and closed up shop. The trick-or-treaters who came to our house were lovely — little kids, teens, etc. It was a nice night!
Weekend Call Day
And today, I am on call! This is my final makeup day for the Weekend of Disaster in June when Josh broke his leg and I had 2 colleagues help me out (still so grateful — I was in NO PLACE to take call!). I think it will be be a busy one but honestly one day of weekend call is the absolute best-case scenario. No matter how many patients I end up having to see it will be doable, and no matter what I get to hand over the list at 8 AM tomorrow after just one night.
I may have to swim to the hospital though (it is pouring again. Plus thunder/lightning. Hopefully no flooding please!)
After this, I have a week of call over Christmas week and then that’s it for 2026 coverage! I’ll take it.
Q5 Theme
= SAVOR + ENJOY THE RIDE.
Aiming for things to feel a bit more spacious, and to really lean into the fun and relaxing aspects of the season. I have plenty of clinical + creative work to do, but things do look less packed and frenetic. I am hoping this can feel like a well-time downshift.
(Q4 = PROTECT + EXECUTE — I came up with this in October, but it describes the season well.)
PS: It’s NaBloPoMo! I try to post most days anyway, but I love the added community element of NaBloPoMo AND LOVE that my feed reader gets nice and full! I am going to challenge myself to check out a few new-to-me blogs this month and say hi.

I bet you’re glad you moved away from Miami Beach! Glad you had a nice Halloween. I was on call last night and all the cases wrapped up by 8pm, so I even got an extra hour of sleep. Now daughter and husband are at a dog agility trial and I have a whole rested empty day ahead of me… what should I do????
I very nearly wore a similar costume to be Caroline Ingalls, but it was too hot here as well, and I just wore my customary Halloween t-shirt. My youngest skipped dressing up at all and just wore all black to be a black hole, lol. Josh’s “tattoo sleeves” definitely make his costume. Hope your call day isn’t too bad!
love the trad wife costume SO MUCH
