the elective life

i can’t complain . . .
so i was released from work about 1pm yesterday. i’m not going to lie, it was awesome. i saw 2 food allergy patients and actually did learn some things even in my abbreviated workday. i have a feeling it is going to be a nice 2.5 weeks on this rotation. i even spent some time reading an A/I article after work, and got to feel all virtuous despite devoting most of my afternoon to shopping.

schedule snafu
i was checking my clinic schedule this morning and noticed that my lovely behavior & development month for february has been switched out for a call-filled ward month. um, noooooooo they didn’t! not acceptable! i am hoping it is a mistake. i am not sure i can take another back-to-back PICU/WARDS experience.

gifting
i am having a harder time than ever dragging myself out to go shopping for gifts this year. with the exception of clothes (because come on, you NEED to try things on!), i am becoming a total shopping recluse. my computer is just too good at finding and delivering gifts to people! some of my favorite sites:

the daily planner. for all sorts of nerdy stationery goodness.

orla kiely. duh.

vivigirlshop, for fun girl-centered gifts.

amazon.com, because you can never go wrong with a book. and because they are WAY cheaper than anywhere else!

workout: 6 miles total interval run, 0.5% incline.
– 1 mile warmup
– 5 x 800m @ 7:41/mi pace with 2.5 minutes jogging in between each
– 1.25 mile cooldown

this felt easy, probably because i did shorter intervals at the same pace i was using before.

reading: background article on immune function. i really hadn’t thought of antigen-presenting cells and MHCs since medical school!
