i just had to post again after my run because i wanted to share a few things. actually, mainly one thing: CHECK IT!
omg, that was seriously the best post-run brunch ever. i had initially thought maybe josh and i would make french toast together after my run, but i had forgotten that he can’t always read my mind, because i never told him these plans. all sweaty and tired about to pull my car out of the lot, i discovered a phone message letting me know that he was meeting a friend in raleigh at a diner to celebrate finishing his stint at wake med. at first, i was sad and figured i would just make some pb & j, but then i realized that he would still be home soon and there absolutely no reason not to make my french toast dream a reality.

and DAY-UM, he missed out. i’m sure his little diner lunch was good but — not THIS GOOD! the chewy, warm, eggy challah bread! the fresh greek yogurt with strawberries and bananas, surrounded by lakes of pure vermont maple syrup — seriously, it tasted illegal. it was that good. enhanced by mild hypoglycemia and a rush of endorphins, this will go down in history as maybe the best brunch ever. so i’m glad i took the time and effort to make it for myself.

run stats: 13 miles, 8:47/mi average. there was really no fast finish but just a steady pace the entire way. i did the durham tobacco trail in its entirety, all the way from the southpoint area to the downtown durham ballpark (sorry if that means nothing to you, but — it’s far!). the positive side was that it was fun to do the whole thing, but the negative was that i had no fuel or water with me so the last few miles were pretty much torture and i really couldn’t pick up the pace. i think my glycogen stores are tanked up now, though!

deep thought on the run: it was a beautiful sunny day. there were some runners and bikers (MANY without helmets — grrr) out, but compared to the mob scene at the mall the day earlier it was EMPTY. yet the path i was on is pretty, easily accessible, and FREE! why would people rather hang out at the mall? kinda sad.

i listened to an old this american life podcast and the new lily allen. i can’t decide whether i love the album, but it was great for running.

plans for tonight: pizza at durham’s rockwood filling station. i’ve read both positive and negative reviews, so i’ll be interested to see for myself!

    Hi Sarah,

    Don’t forget to click on the leeetle link below the map graphic because it is the other side of this 2-page map.

    You indeed ran 6.5 x 2 = 13 miles on your run. You can make it longer by running out and back the 1.5 mile-long (approx.) Riddle Road Spur too.

    For another experience, check out the Wake County section of the ATT. It’s surface is compacted granite screenings so it softer on your ankles! You can run just over 12 miles if you do it all.

    Park at the White Oak Church Road Access, which is an off-road parking facility with restrooms, but no water.

    The Chatham County portion of the ATT north of the Wake County portion is currently under construction. You may be able to continue your run from Wake into the construction zone for about a mile or so for the next month depending on conditions. However, it IS a construction zone, so use your best judgment.
