life Weekend

Since I’ve been gone . . .

January 29, 2020

Okay, it hasn’t been all that long. But it feels like it because a lot happened! No official weekend report because I was so overdue in Life Management that I had to spend every precious minute on Monday morning organizing and prioritizing.

I am overdue for a ‘real’ weekly review and feeling it! And now we’re going into a new month — oh dear. Somehow Q1 always seems to speed by for me — I think it’s all the pent-up anticipation and new tasks I’m trying to cram in.

WELL. It’s far too late for a weekend update, but I cannot skip sharing these wedding photos — Josh and I had a lovely date night (including a hotel stay in MIA) and it was fun.

The event was held at Vizcaya and it was beautiful in every respect. I did end up wearing my RTR gown but it had to be altered with safety pins (straps too long = risk of indecent exposure). I love the idea of RTR . . . but I almost always struggle in practice. The options for petite women are limited and even when promised to be petite (as this one was), often I find they aren’t really. (I think a lot of times RTR just hems the gown and calls it petite. THAT IS NOT REALLY PETITE. This would explain why the size label did not say “P”, which I did complain about, and was offered a whopping “15% off my next order” in consolation. ANYWAY.)

The rest of the weekend was spent doing kid-centric things, once we got home. I took Cameron to a bookstore and took this picture, which about captures his current essence.

And in MUCH more important news . . . my sister had her baby last night!!!! AND SHE IS SO PERFECT. I am dying to meet her but alas she is in NC and I am stuck here (for now).

I am anticipating ALL kinds of cousin adventures with this one — she is closer to G’s age than A or C! Disney 2024!? Cannot wait. My sister is so happy and doing well.

Congrats to your sister! What a beautiful baby! I bet you can’t wait to get your hands on her!

I’ve never done RTR and I don’t think I would because I would be paranoid the dress wouldn’t fit. If I lived in a city with locations where you can try on the dresses (like NYC), I would totally try it out for special events. Despite the dress not fitting right, you looked beautiful! I wouldn’t have guessed you had to do some altering with safety pins and such! I hope you were feeling well enough to enjoy the night!

Hi! Just make sure you pick a cover in the “A5/cousin” section, and you’ll be fine!! On the website, the A5 cousin books have all of the covers shown UNDER the books. I’d link it but it doesn’t copy/paste!

AMEN to the “not actually petite”. This is why I generally don’t consider thrift or consignment shopping an option. Regular people clothes don’t fit well, and the available inventory of petite sizes isn’t worth the time investment. By the time I pay for alterations to make a piece fit properly … well, I could have just gone to one of my trusty brands and skipped the time involved with alterations.

Yay for Macgyver alterations – looks like it was a fun evening!
