Our upstairs air conditioner broke last night. I literally said — during a lovely Zoom convo with my college friends — “our oven is broke, but at least we have our A/C!”.
UNCANNY. It’s like someone is trying to teach me something. If nothing else, it’s that cheery “at least” statements are dangerous because what happens if even that falls through?
I guess it’s an important lesson. No one owes us anything. Our lives and setups are more fragile than they seem. Things we take for granted are VERY important to our happiness, or at least our non-misery.
(But, at least we still have our downstairs A/C. FOR NOW.)
I did not clean the bathrooms yesterday because we realized we don’t have the right scrubbers and this did not merit a separate store trip. Will defer to later in week or order online.
Things I AM grateful for (other than our downstairs A/C):
1- The kids are sleeping later than they ever have (yesterday A got up at 7:30, G got up at 8:30, and C slept until nearly 10). They are going to bed later too, but not so late that it’s untenable. One perk of not having an early school start.
2- We had a nice dinner last night, and 2/3 kids loved the shrimp lo mein! (G threw a tantrum for ice cream while we were still eating dinner. Oh well.)
3- Autumn Calabrese! Yes, I feel like I know her at this point. I just love her style and the way she motivates. I finished A Little Obsessed (just a 5 day program) yesterday and am going to start 21 Day Fix Extreme — I’ve done some of the workouts before but have never gone 21 days straight through.
After that I think I am going to tackle 80 Day Obsession. I don’t think there’s ever going to be a time as UN-interrupted by travel & other life events as there is now!
I have not been running, by the way. I have been taking walks (because otherwise I can go through a day with a really pitiful # of steps, and that can’t be good).
I sort of miss it, but it’s been fun to change it up and I feel like these programs provide enough activity on their own when done daily, esp when paired with a walk. I think I will shift gears in the fall back to running, but 80 DO would take me through the summer, which is terrible running weather here anyway.
TODAY: full telemed day with hopefully some time to sneak out a workout around lunchtime. AND hopefully a masked A/C repair person can come. @(*$&@#!.

I see at least one A/C van in my neighborhood every day, as they are considered essential in south Florida. Maybe he can fix your oven, too? ๐
The techs will mask/glove up – and also take off shoes or put on the blue shoe covers. They want to be in and out of your house as fast as you want them in and out.
Too funny about Autumn Calabrese. I totally know what you mean. I feel like I “know” you, from reading your blog and listening to BOBW for a long time, but I totally don’t! And you obviously don’t know me!! haha! I feel like that about other podcasters I listen to, too. It’s like we are friends, but they don’t know it ๐
At least you have warm weather! (I know that’s hard to appreciate when you’re sweltering in your house.) We got a cold snap last night and the temps dropped below freezing! It’s so much harder to work & home-school when I can’t send the kids outside!
I’m in that same boat! It is snowing on and off here today. I did send the kids out for 30 minutes but if it could only warm up so that the kids won’t complain about being out longer and more times!
Ugh – a broken a/c is no good. I would consider having someone in to fix that – especially if your bedrooms are upstairs!
We are on the other end of the spectrum and got over 6″ of snow here yesterday (I live in Minneapolis). It looked more like Christmas than Easter. It should melt this week but it’s a depressing outdoor scene for mid-April. But not surprising for Minnesota as our springs just kind of suck here.
I think your focus on strength workouts instead of running makes sense. That’s what I used to do in the winter pre-kids. I’d shift to strength training as running outside in the winter is just not something I enjoy here. Then as spring approached, those indoor workouts tapered off and I focused on running.
Oh noooooo! Iโm so sorry Sarah! It was great to see all the recipes people shared. Iโve jotted some down to try myself, and will add my recommendation too (I keep forgetting). How long are the little obsessed videos? Do you think itโs a good next step for 21 df lovers? Might be something to check out!
I can fully understand when it’s hot needing A/C to make life inside more comfortable.
I’m so happy the recipe mostly worked out for your family. Your kids seem to do really well with all sorts of vegetables and other foods. My son will do a bit of spicy but my daughter will not. at. all. it gets a bit boring that way.
Oh wow, that sucks, I hope you are able to get it fixed soon! I didn’t love the “A Little Obsessed” workouts—I’ve done 2 so far, and they seem meh (I even bought resistance bands on Amazon to use). Its been perfect running weather here, so I am enjoying mixing that in—will NOT be running in true summer, I am not acclimated.
I liked the AAA, cardio flow and legs. But that’s 3/5 so not bad.
I kind of forget about the other two already!
I also got the bands & sliders from amazon ๐
I’m sorry about your AC. That really truly sucks. I hope it’s not too hot to sleep tonight. AC repair seems like it should be an essential service in FL, so hopefully you’re able to get it fixed quickly.
We did!!!!! So thankful. Temp went to 90s today so seriously … yay.
