Day 72: 5 Things Making Me Happy Right Now

May 26, 2020

1- 6 days left of school! I do plan on instituting some learning activities into the summer weekday schedule but . . . will be excited when the pressure of the actual school year is over.

(What will school look like in the fall? I think anything is possible, from 100% remote to 100% in person. I am honestly sort of done thinking about it because it feels like an endless and unproductive rumination loop at this point.)

then her shirt will be true

2- Never Have I Ever. Josh and I are 0.5 episodes away from finishing this series and it’s fantastic lockdown fodder. Mindy Kaling created the series inspired by her own childhood . . . need I say more? It’s a lot of fun and definitely could be binged on a rainy afternoon if you didn’t have 3 kids running around 🙂

3- Kids Baking Championship! We watched the 2017 season as a family (okay, G sort of watched, sort of played with toys, and sort of drove us crazy). It was so much fun to have a show that we were actually all into! (Except G but . . . as toddlers go, she’s not terrible to watch with!)

4- Sleep. I slept SO MUCH this past weekend. Like 8-10 hours/night. It was amazing. Truthfully I should probably do that more, but then I’d have to give up something else (reading . . . workouts . . . writing this. Sigh)

5- Just thinking about summer! Even if it’s not THAT different here (and certainly isn’t an improvement, weather-wise), I am excited to have a new Quintile / Season. Am thinking about my own Summer Fun List (I don’t always do this but . . . why not?). I also feel like it’s possible that we may be able to take our summer trip (FL Keys: driving distance and staying at a resort but with our own villa/townhouse), and while I am not getting toooo attached to that outcome, it’s fun to think about a change of scenery.

I guess we will see what happens with case #s here. Our local beaches are — as of today — now open.

We have a beach trip planned. We can drive, we are staying in a vacation rental and even if nothing were opened we could go sit on the beach at least. With camp cancelled and a much anticipated trip to Italy postponed, we needed…something.

We had a huge family trip to Ireland, Paris and Amsterdam scheduled over spring break. We had to cancel it and moved it to August, thinking OF COURSE things would be totally fine by then ( we really had no way to anticipate how big this would all truly get…back then it seemed “impossible” things could still be closed months later..)) So, now August is inching nearer and obviously it looks pretty much impossible that a big European tourist vacation could happen this summer. I am SO SAD. When we cancelled it, I felt this big relief that “at least” we could go later in the summer…:-(

I’m sorry about your Italy trip. We are looking at maybe doing a driving beach rental trip as well once we figure out the logistics of cancelling our Europe trip (again).

Yes, we waited and waited on Italy. But it started to feel like if we didn’t change plans now we would likely end up with no plans. I am a physician and by August I am going to need a break and a staycation in New York in August 2020 is really not sounding nice at all!!!

I hope you can go to the keys! If you don’t need to spend time in a crowded lobby I don’t see why you can’t. We are contemplating a beach trip if we can find some where that’s not insanely crowded (like a Gillian above). We are even thinking of inviting cousins to join us (who have also been very careful). At some point my kids are going to need to see other kids…have you thought about seeing local cousins at all? It’s just hard to know where to add in a little extra risk but it’s starting to be a long now.

I listened to the pod cast today and wanted to mention that I have Groundhog’s Day on my to watch with the family list. I hope you’ve seen the Jeep commercial from this past winter… a scene straight from the movie and so funny!

I’m writing my happy list too. I find the exercise alone makes me happy 🙂
