HIGHLIGHTS
1- Taking an hour long meandering walk with G (how to get only 2000 steps while “walking” for 60 minutes? Walk with a toddler). It was peaceful and nice and not terribly hot. We have a tropical depression rolling through (part of what is now TS Sally) and it brought breezes and slightly cooler temps. 78F midmorning is heaven these days!
2- Reading ~140 pages of Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum. (Fun YA read so far. I’m pretty sure I know the punchline already but no one give it away!)
Just 2. At least there were 2!
LOWLIGHTS
1- Not getting my workout in (oops) and feeling annoyed about it all day
2- G not napping (despite napping every day at school! #unfair)
3- MOOD. (probably partially hormone related, tbh)
4- G&C both kind of also in MOODS. With G, particularly after her non-nap.
5- Instagram. I spent way too much time scrolling, and every time I saw a post encouraging ‘self-care’ I was inflamed with rage. YOU TRY SELF-CARING WITH A NON-NAPPING TODDLER OKAY!?!?!?!
CONCLUSIONS
1- I am better off just getting up early on my days off, for the most part. Starting the day with my usual routine is just sort of essential.
2- The OCP I am on helps me sooooo much, but those 4 days off each month (or sometimes less frequently) can still be a liiiiitle rough. Good to be aware.
3- Instagram is a poor coping mechanism. (I did manage to also read half a book, so I wasn’t just on Insta. But better probably would have been no Insta and a whole book!)
Onward & upward. I think I going to try tracking time this week!
ALSO:
Will share more details on these in a later post (and on BLP!). But, I am happy to report:
a) Annabel loves the Cookie Monster cover
b) The Cookie Monster cover is amazing IRL (and very soft)
c) For those interested, she got the regular A5 cousin and I got the A5 cousin avec!
d) No, neither of us have written a word in ours yet. I imagine setup will be a very special ceremonial event later in the year 🙂
e) It was so much fun ordering and unboxing WITH Annabel! I hope it is a yearly tradition. (Which means I really hope she USES hers!)

You instagram story of G was soooo cute though!
What about skipping your placebo ocps? Just take take the active pills continuously. Did you know the only reason ocps have placebos is because the developers of the pill thought mimicking a normal menstrual cycle would make the it more palatable to the leaders of the Catholic church? They serve no actual medical purpose. And 60 years later the Catholic church still isn’t on board…
I can lengthen it but not forever … I’ve tried 😂
I’m sorry to hear about your non-napping toddler. My daughter is six months older than G and she seemed to drop her naps about 6 months ago. We pretty much gave up. But she still clearly needed the naps because she’d be a terror in the afternoon/evening. Then we were able to re-institute them somehow. It took a lot of cajoling. Now I’m thankful for every weekend nap she still takes.
What I would give to have some rain in our poor parched state of California! Minus the tropical storm, of course.
And I agree about getting up early on all “off days”. Because when you’re taking care of kids there are no “off days”, in my opinion. I am nursing a three-month-old who wakes up every 3-4 hours at night to eat. And has no schedule. But as soon as I can reasonably begin getting up “before the kids are up” again, I will do so. Because it’s just better that way.
I’m on eastern Washington where we are having HORRIBLE wildfire smoke this weekend, and my toddler (a little younger than G) keeps asking to go outside or go hiking. It’s breaking my heart…
You say you had “only 2” highlights, but oh, they sound like lovely, momentous highlights! So Instagram sucked up a lot of time — I am totally with you on any article about self-care, which I studiously avoid across all my social media; I’m not on Insta but when I see those on my Tumblr feed I skip right past those — but you read half a book! And you got the Hobonichi package! 🎉 Sounds like some pretty awesome wins. 😁
And again, do ignore the self care articles. I’ve learned enough about people and how they present themselves publicly — whether on social media or in their public personas in any other medium — to know that, in too many cases, the private reality almost never lives up to the public display, and sometimes reflects the exact opposite. That’s what I love about your blog — well, plus the planning stuff! Those posts are *gold* — I just sense nothing but authentic stories reflecting the good and bad of your reality, and that’s SO much more inspiring than all those soft-lit, glowing blogger “journeys”.
Ooh snap – that’s the hobo cover I ordered this year 🙂 I dithered a bit over whether to be more frugal and stick with my current cover, but some years I don’t like any of them and I could really do with a fresh burst of colour and positive planning vibes for 2021. I’m really struggling to get planning systems working well after several changes of role in quick succession, moving house and, you know, 2021…
The cousin avec is also my preferred model – I tried the A6 size but just felt cramped. I like having a fresh start mid year, and slightly reducing the weight. I buy the slim A5 notebooks (that come in packs of 2) and use about 1 per month.
I had a chuckle as the hobo store shows you your ordering history. I can see the sharp uptick in expenditure when I graduated from my masters and had a full-time income again, and again when I started a ‘fun budget’ (like your allowance system) and realised that lovely Japanese stationery really does spark joy every day for me. So looking forward to it arriving!
it TOTALLY sparks joy 🙂 it’s such a pretty cover! i keep looking at it and it makes me happy 🙂
The sun returned today…and I can say that the weather on Saturday was blah-inducing. So don’t be too hard on yourself for the crankiness in your household. It was Mother Nature.
Bummer about G not napping! That would make for a hard day for me, too. our son is 2.5 and is still napping – thank God. With the baby arriving in Dec I hope he continues to nap. I feel like school tires him out so much that he’ll need a nap longer than the typical toddler – but that could be wishful thinking on my part. He’s in the middle of his 2-week transition into a new room and he has been a PILL! My best friend’s son is one week of ahead of him in the transition and she said their son has been the same so at least I know it’s situational and not just part of being 2? There’s been lots of throwing the body on the ground crying because daddy turned on his show or got him his cracker instead of mommy. Ay yi yi.
