1- I voted! I had to wait in an outdoor line for ~30 minutes at our early voting location, but had headphones and the weather was decent, so it wasn’t bad.
I did not use my absentee ballot (instead I turned it in and they voided it) but rather fed my ballot through the machine. So satisfying. And now the sticker has a place of posterity!
2- Yesterday was day #30 of Operation 100! I am not exaggerating when I say I feel like I came out of a years-long fog with my new digital practices. I am so much more present and less distracted. I am shockingly uninterested in scrolling. I am only mad at myself for not truly taking charge of this habit sooner. (Sometimes you’re only ready when you’re ready, though).
I do not think I will ever go back to unmitigated social media and phone use.
Average minutes used over the past 30 days: 70
Most used apps: Duolingo and Messages
Minutes of Instagram used total last week: 21
I honestly feel like I have a significant chunk of my life and brain space back.
3- Fun podcast episodes from the past week:
10 things to tell you: Mistakes I’ve Made Recently
Girls Next Door Podcast: Our Buying Habits & A Dangerous Muffin Pan (I tend towards overbuyer, in case you’re curious!)
(for when you need a break from NPR & politics . . .)
4- Lovely song: MILCK – Somebody’s Beloved. This song is rather political but it’s also beautiful. (Discovered as usual on NPR’s All Songs Considered!). I don’t know this artist very well, but based on this song I am going to listen to more of her music!
5- Harbinger of fall: Matching pajamas!!
(It is nearly impossible to get all of them making a normal face!)

Sarah, how do you account for podcast listening time?
The screen isn’t on so it doesn’t get counted! I make sure to lock the screen for that reason.
Great job, btw. I am motivated to do some digital minimizing myself especially after having watched The Social Dilemma.
Your phone usage is so impressive. My totals don’t really make sense so I think it’s counting time on zoom calls towards my total usage because the sub-categories do not add up to the total usage… I’m not using the zoom ap on my phone, I use my desktop application and then have zoom call me. I set my limit to a max of 30 minutes between IG and FB and haven’t gotten blocked from those aps much so I know I’m staying under that total which is what I’m most focused on. But my most-used categories are messages, chrome, gmail and pocket casts so I feel like my phone usage is ok since those aren’t social media… But I know there is always room for improvement!
Agreed, such an inspiration! My covid phone use has definitely been out of control 🙂 just set some app timers and resolved to put the phone AWAY if I am not on a call within the next 10 minutes.
Thanks for sharing that song. I just watched the video and literally started crying.
I’m so impressed with your turning around your social apps/phone use that I’m seriously considering joining you for BOY starting Monday. I need to figure out my own parameters but it’s constantly on my habit change list so maybe it’s Time to just DO IT already!
Ironically I am posting this from my phone during some scroll time 🙄😬
WOW I’m so impressed!!! Also – where did you get those matching pajamas? So cute!
Gap!
Promise me you voted for change rather than more of the same … I mean, I’m sure you did from everything you talk about and how you approach the world. But from the UK it all seems inexplicable so I don’t trust my own judgement and understanding!
OF COURSE! (Made my voting choices clear in this post: https://theshubox.com/2020/09/5-things-of-varying-importance.html?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=5-things-of-varying-importance )
Does the wonderland 222 planner fit into your hobonichi A5 cover? I had a peak at the planner online, and it looks like EXACTLY what I’m looking for… even though I’m loathe to move on from my beloved hobonichi cousin! I can’t wait to read your review!
IT DOES!
