Best Laid Plans Goals The Podcast

2021 Goals Countdown: Blog/Pod

Blog:

This blog will turn 17 in 2021.
THAT IS VERY OLD.

I would just like to continue to post regularly (most days) + be better about circling back to requested topics/questions. I think I am pretty good at this, but could be better! I am thrilled with the level of reader engagement (thank you!) and I want to do my part in responding.

Newsletter:

I would like to grow the newsletter a bit just for fun; currently, the list is ~1700 subscribers. Since it has only been around for ~6m, 2500 seems like a reasonable goal for the end of 2021.

(Is there anything specific anyone would like me to include in the newsletter that isn’t currently there? Let me know!)

BOBW:

3+ years in, I still really enjoy recording this show!

I would like to do a better job prewriting show notes (and blocking off time to do it!) because I often end up doing them in a rush.

Laura and I are going to continue to work towards more diverse and varied voices from our guests; of note, I think we had a great start with this in 2020 but there is always more work to do.

I would like to generally have recording sessions/guest eps planned a bit more in advance, with the goal of one interview/month by each of us. Not to get too into the production process, but we have decided to split some of the guest recordings up this year in hopes of streamlining our processes (and because sometimes having a 3 way interview doesn’t flow as easily!). I think this will really help.

BLP:

I still kind of can’t believe I have a planning podcast!

Similarly, I would like to make sure that I stay a bit more ahead of the game (I don’t like coming up against recording deadlines).

I would also like to continue to work on keeping better track of questions! I’m getting better at this, but would not call my process perfect yet!

I would like to continue to recording weekly episodes with 1 guest/month, 1 Q&A ep, 1 product review, and 1-2 “topic focus” eps. I am SUPER excited for the January and February guests already!

I would love to make BLP a non-$-losing endeavor, so I’m hoping to find some sponsors but I am not sure how much control I have over that goal!

By year-end, a pie-in-the-sky goal would be to have some of the BLP highlights complied into an ebook (I know many of you have asked for this!).

COVID Update from Quarantine Land:

Everyone is doing okay. Josh has officially lost his sense of smell which he describes as “very very weird.” He is tired but non-toxic-appearing and breathing okay. I coughed a lot yesterday but feel a bit better today and am going to attempt a (light) Beachbody workout . . . we will see how it goes. I tested yesterday at a public site (did have to wait ~60 min in a car line, but it wasn’t terrible) so results may come back tonight.

Sorry about Josh and that you are parenting alone! Love the podcast and would welcome some content for parents (like me) with older kids (late teens). Thanks for all you do!

Thinking of you and your family and hoping you are all 100% soon! Your blog has been such a bright spot for me this past year- thank you for the community you’ve created and the inspiration you are giving others!

My husband and I had Covid in November. We both lost our taste and smell. I was so mad because his came back in two weeks and mine is still not 100% (but seems to be improving). Hope you feel better soon!

Sarah, if you need something to watch while in quarantine, I highly recommend “Death to 2020” on Netflix. It’s hilarious and I found it a great way to close out the year. Hoping you all stay feeling okay!

I guess this is certainly a 2020 way to end the year. I hope that everyone recovers quickly. Thank you for your blog, it has been a highlight at the start of my day. Here’s to a happy, healthy 2021.

Thanks for everything you’ve brought to us in 2020, I’m a long time BOBW listener which I love, but only discovered the blog this year, and it’s been a highlight of my morning reading your entries each day (I’m in Australia so they arrive overnight). I hope you and the family have a quick and complete recovery from covid, and wishing you a happy, healthy and hopefully full vaccinated 2021! 🙂
