Just popping in to say things are good, my work challenges ended up going better than expected, and I am feeling pretty good about my call weekend. Josh is on primary parent mode this weekend and I’m not too sad about it!
(He also gave me Thursday night entirely ‘off’ — we are trying a more scheduled approach to our evenings and this was part of the deal).
Honestly, it was glorious. He got home just before 7 and by 7:30 I retreated upstairs. I watched most of an episode of Crash Landing On You instead of reading and it felt quite indulgent and therapeutic.
Other positive things:
✅ G had no accidents yesterday!!!!!
✅ Everyone in this house is currently healthy.
✅ I got my library holds list going and multiple books are already available (now I’m going to run into having too many at once . . . but I can always return and re-check-out if there is no hold queue).
I’m reading Medical Apartheid as my non-fiction right now (I typically have one novel + one non-fic going at any time!) and it’s heavy and dense so I picked a few lighter-appearing titles to accompany.
Okay. Am going to attempt LIIFT4 workout prior to rounding then see pts and attack a few other to-do items. Not sure how well I did with my January goals but today seems like a reasonable time to check in!

Loved Glass Hotel!
I second that, Glas Hotel was great!
Yes, same here! I really like the writer’s style, so I checked out her first novel Last Night In Montreal. Also a winner especially for a debut. Hard to believe she’s had no real formal training. She’s just naturally a really good storyteller.
Are you able to pause holds at your library? That’s what I do so I don’t get multiple books at the same time. You will still advance in the queue and then you unpause when you are ready to check it out. I’ve been reading mostly ebooks since I am always holding a baby when reading. My library asks if I want to delay borrowing it so it’s easy to manage ebook holds since I can always push it off if I have too many other books checked out.
Glad you got a full night off to spend like you would like!! For me, there’s nothing like being in your house and being able to do whatever you want!
Yes!! Good point, I’m going to do that! I don’t need more than 3 at once.
I’m totally going to see if my library will allow me to pause a hold. I’ve been finding it hard to time my library requests because I just never know when any of them will become available. Thanks for this tip!
Glad that everyone is feeling better and you had a night off! I too look forward to my call weekends a bit – not because I’m on call, but because I’m not the primary parent and it feels SO good. Would you mind sharing more details on the scheduled evenings you guys are trying out? My husband and I struggle with this – he’s a surgeon like your husband, so it can be hard to predict when he’ll be home each night (even on his non-call weeks). I love the idea of switching off and giving each other a night “off”, but it can be hard to plan when we don’t know which nights he’ll be home to help out. Thanks for posting so regularly – I look forward to reading every day!
I’ll do a post on this next week but basically Thursday is my night off 🙂 I’m trying to get him to stay and finish notes on Tuesdays and fridays – yes Friday is sad but honestly it happens anyway and at least if he can clean up then we can enjoy the weekend more!
Monday he is going to try to get home close to 6-7 and weds he has a guitar class and it’s his night off 🙂
I’ve been told I would love crash Landing on you. What did you think?
Slow, but in a good way. I really like it! Calming even though there is plenty of drama! And even though I know there’s a disclaimer that says it’s fictional, it’s interesting seeing them postulate soon what life in North Korea would be like!
Oh my gosh I started watching this last night too!!!
Would be interested in what you think of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. I heard great things but ultimately put it down 30% of the way through, which is hard for me to do! Thought it was a bit slow and just could not get into it. I then moved on to Such a Fun Age which I finished in 2 days.
