5 on a Friday: Full Day Edition

August 27, 2021

1- I thought this post was interesting: How to Recover from Pandemic-Induced Mind Fog.

I think there is some truth to his post yet it seems like there are many who took time this past year to develop healthier habits, rather than the other way around.

In my own case, I think my biggest issues causing mind fog are a) sleep issues (this past week, I’ve had at least 2 nights where I woke up at 2-3 am and had trouble settling back down) and b) phone/digital distractions (which you all have heard plenty about).

2- I’ve enjoyed following along in this week’s food-themed blog post series from Elisabeth (a reader + now near-daily blogger): her food habits, what her kids eat, and how she structures meal planning.

3- Cameron does not have COVID! And having completed 7 days of quarantine + a negative PCR test, he is allowed back in school today. Annabel is getting tested today and will be allowed to return Monday if negative.

4- I am mildly overwhelmed by how my schedule looks today. Patients –> back to back meetings (most of which I am the primary presenter) –> basically 0 wiggle room. Hopefully it will go more smoothly than it looks.

5- Organize 365’s Fall Planning Day is on Saturday! I wish I could go, because I am absolutely craving 4 hours to sit there and just scheme. Unfortunately, Josh is on call and I have no childcare. Next time!

Some of you have inquired about how I use my Sunday Basket (physical paper holder part of Lisa’s system).

Basically, I throw papers in here throughout the week and make sure to sort through them on Sunday!

I have a folder dedicated per kid, folders (pink) dedicated to blog/pod, and folders (green) for financial info. I do not have that much paper, but I like that the papers I do have are organized!

I actually bought this as a Friday Workbox but found that my work papers a) generally stayed in my office (not at home) and b) were very minimal — ie, work is so digital. Clinical work stays on our electronic health record, and almost everything else exists in some sort of app or on a shared network drive at work. Thankfully the workbox is essentially the same as a Sunday Basket (just slightly different # folder + different instructional material) and I do really like having this for home!

One could certainly create their own version of this sytem, and in fact I used to keep everything in a PVC plastic tabbed folder in a wooden holder on my desk, but I do like how the actual Sunday Basket has more room. The mint green bag (that I bought from my sister’s shop — yes she gives me a discount!!!) contains my latest planners for review + some stickers etc!

(note: Organize 365 is a podcast sponsor, but I was not asked to post about the above- just wanted to share!)

ALL RIGHT, let’s do this, Full Friday. Today’s workout: 45 minute full body HIIT circuit. I am still loving the Sydney Cummings Fit and Strong at Home series and am excited to see what her new series will be (starts Sept 6th!).

That is fabulous news about C! Best wishes for a very long run back at school with no disruptions.

Also, my best friend from college is now a diehard knitter – that bag (in that colour) from Warm ‘n Fuzzy is going to make a perfect gift!!

And thanks so much for the blog shout-out 🙂

Ooh that is a lovely bag! I don’t get much paper, I tend to have a few work pieces on my desk and we get maybe 5 or 6 pieces of mail a week (beyond the catalogues from the previous owners that go into the recycling). I need to be better about corralling nursery artwork (ahem….corralling directly into the recycling bin) and we have a pile of old paper upstairs that desperately needs sorting and shredding. For a long time, we had to keep everything for immigration documents, but now that my citizenship has been granted, we were able to go paperless for everything.

Excuse my ignorance. Since you all had Covid before, don’t your kids have natural immunity? Can people get Covid more than once? It seems like some people who are opposed to the vaccine use the reason that natural immunity is better. If that’s not the case I fear we will never get out of this pandemic! Glad to hear C is ok

The natural immunity wanes with time sadly! We all had it about 8 months ago so probably somewhat protective but not absolute and does not exclude us from quarantine.

I am amazed at your lack of paper. I feel like I am drowning in paper between all my kids’ school stuff and artwork and random things. I have been meaning to get a Sunday basket started but it feels overwhelming!
