Best Laid Plans Weekend

BLP Show Notes + November

November 1, 2021

I love this time of year.

I think it is the combination of reflection and connection. And our weather finally getting nice helps, too.

(This time change is never my fave — early rising children are not the best. But given that lately they need dragging out of bed on school days, it probably won’t be the worst, either.)

This week’s episode: Retreats!

In this episode, I discuss planning retreat ideas of all forms, from the personal work-related retreat to a couples experience (like this one Josh and I took recently!).

Episode Sponsor: Organize 365. (I did an intense cleanout of my own Sunday Basket the weekend!).

Halloween / Weekend Scenes

Literally impossible to get 3 kids smiling at once. Arctic fox, Blue power ranger, Doctor in training
Our pet bearded dragon for the weekend (Ash, the school pet we had for the weekend). She now wants one of her own . . .

Weekend included: good amount of sleep, 2 workouts (Saturday run, Sunday this strength workout), a neighborhood bike ride, a Flamingo Gardens trip, reading (Klara and the Sun, 4000 Weeks), and more. I spread out the usual frantic Sunday activities a bit more (because of Halloween) and it worked pretty well . . .

Oh! And as of this past Friday . . . we are under contract on the house!!! Let’s hope the next 394834 steps go smoothly (closing date is early January!).

Super exciting about the house! Will you share pics? I adore drooling over house pictures!

Just wondering what made you decide to buy a house? I remember a while ago you were totally set against it and determined to rent forever! Curious what changed your mind, since your reasons for not buying seemed pretty compelling to me.

One reason alone: rent went way up! We have less faith in the rental market being stable, and we like our neighborhood so . . . we went for it 🙂

I was just thinking how this is a great BLP/SHU day since it’s the first of the month (newsletter!) and a Monday (podcast) all in one! Definitely what I needed today. Looking forward to listening. 🙂

Oh and congrats on the contract! We just bought our very first place earlier this year (and maybe similar to you it wasn’t in our near term plan before that but circumstances made it make sense and from there it moved really quickly).

Congrats on the house!!! And the kids are super cute. I love the doctor in training costume.

Congrats! Can’t wait to follow along and live vicariously through your process (I’m quite content not to move again any time soon, but would make the exact same choice if rent skyrocketed!).

The outfits look adorable. Bonus points to any adults who make any effort to dress up!

For the planner that was looking for the Monthly, Weekly, Daily set up. Try agendio.com, that is the style I created for work and personalized with all of my task lists.

One suggestion for 1D2P with weekly vertical and monthly spreads is of course Franklin planner system on Rings.
