December 9, 2021

We celebrated Josh’s birthday yesterday with:

Crumbl cookies in lieu of a cake (my first time trying them — quite decadent and delicious. Esp the York Peppermint Patty flavor!)

omgyum

A gift of male-targeted skincare. I will report back with more details if he likes it.

Microbrew of the month x 3 months because that gift literally never fails to delight in his case.

I forgot to take any pictures!

Three other random things:

1- I finished Man’s Search for Meaning. What a fascinating and important book. (On that note, as it is December 9 and I am at 46 books for the year, I kind of really want to finish 4 in the next 3 weeks to make it an even 50. I think this is doable. When I looked back to what I read in January, it seemed like eons ago. What a weird year.)

2- I though the Forever35 interview of Eve Rodsky yesterday was excellent! (Spoiler alert: she may be in our guest pipeline as well.)

3- Ooh, and look! Duolingo sent me an update. I did a lot of Spanish this year. Am I fluent? Absolutely not. Do I understand a tiny bit more than before and feel confident saying short conversational phrases? Yes. For this phase of my life, I’m happy with that. But I recognize I would need other avenues of learning (ie, human or screen tutor/conversation partner) to actually become an even minimally functional speaker.

Happy birthday to Josh! What microbrew subscription do you use- I’m looking for an additional holiday present and that sounds like a good option

Happy Birthday to Josh! Sounds like a lovely celebration.

I have also started getting my husband consumable gifts like scotch. When you’ve been together for so long and don’t really need anything …

Wow! I made it like 25 days in DuoLingo (French)…so huge kudos to you! I would like to try this again, but definitely not feeling like a priority for 2022, and I feel like it’s kinda all or nothing – if I don’t commit to doing it regularly, I just won’t make any progress.

Well done. I feel like I’m constantly coming across another study that is lauding the value of learning multiple languages (not just for cultural development, but also to help delay things like dementia!

I should use duolingo so I can communicate a bit better with the boys’ teachers. They are at a Spanish Immersion daycare. Some of the teachers speak English better than others and they can always talk to my husband. He understands everything but is more comfortable speaking in English. But it would be nice if I could communicate a bit more with them!

That cookie looks delicious! December is a big birthday month for you with Josh and G’s bdays! You came up with some great gifts for Josh. We do not exchange gifts for holidays or birthdays anymore which is a relief because shopping for my husband was very challenging. He’s very frugal and doesn’t seem to want anything! For his 40th bday this year, I wanted to do something, especially after he got me a signed photograph of John Dickerson for my 40th (CBS news anchor that I’ve had what I call a “dad crush” on for years!) so I arranged for him to play 3 rounds of golf w/ various people. So my gift was planning it (my forte!) and giving him the gift of time to do something he loved.
