5 on a Friday: a welcome comeback, a notebook, and more

March 11, 2022

1- Un-Fancy is back! I kept this blog on my feedly in the hopes that someday it would return . . . and she is not only back, but she’s posting daily outfits!

I love her casual but thoughtful style and find her just accessible enough.

2- Appointed.co has released a Notebook for Peace, stating that “100% of your purchase supports World Central Kitchen in its efforts to provide meals to Ukrainian families in need”. So if you are in need of a beautiful notebook in a very pretty blue shade, this is a lovely opportunity.

3- Personal milestone – I did a strength workout in a hotel gym 🙂 I had never attempted this, mostly due to feeling self-conscious. But AirPods turned out to be key for propping up my phone (for a thumbnail view of the exercises) and then having the narration/instructions go only to my ears. Maybe I’m also less self-conscious overall than I used to be.

I’m on week 3 of the Total Strength with Andy program (Peloton app) and I have to say I think it’s a good one. Not so hard that I dread it, but hard enough that I can feel some strength coming back. He has a 2nd level of the same program (TS2) so I think I will just move to that next!

4- Weekend rhythms. I really liked this post on the topic from Noemi. I feel like our weekends come in 3 or 4 flavors (depends on who is on call and whether it’s a vacation or holiday weekend) but I also feel like we’ve settled into some rhythms and they are far more pleasant than rhythms of the past when the kids were younger. We had one screen free weekend so far this month, and that shifted the rhythm a bit, but not as much as I thought.

5- Our retreat is coming to a close, and it was really nice. I’m so glad we made it happen! I feel like this little trip checked many boxes: friend time, relaxation, thoughts about the future (BOBW and otherwise).

mine was the wine

We spent some time brainstorming future guests and came up with several that I am really excited about (some have already said yes, too!).

I look forward to a time when weekends are more enjoyable and less, well, taxing? The 1yo is in a stage of getting up around 5:15, I think from teething pain? So I guess the time change will push that to 6:15 for a bit? And maybe we will get lucky and it will stay there. 5:15 is just too early of a start. Our oldest is 4 now and he is so much easier to have around and I really enjoy the time with him for the most part. So I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, although I’ve got 3 years before the youngest is 4… But nicer weather will be a game-changer for our weekends. We’ve had a horrible cold winter here in Minnesota which means we’ve been cooped up way more than I’d like. Being able to go to the park, play outside, go for walks, etc will make a big difference I think!

I’m glad you had a great retreat! Can’t wait to hear what guests you will have in the future!
