I spent time mapping out our summer yesterday. I used a genius page from the Organize365 spring/summer planner that showed 11 weeks laid out on one page — sadly I cannot share that here because it seems unwise to provide a road map of all of our family’s future movements over the next 2.5 months. However, it is now up on our fridge for reference.
It was pretty eye opening, especially considering I’d already spent time putting the summer’s events into various planners. Every single weekend is either:
- CALL
- Travel!
- Big camp-related day (putting kids on flight + getting them back!)
Of course there is the possibility that some portion of this will be messed up when we get COVID again (though Josh has this hope that maybe we already did and didn’t realize? Probably wishful thinking . . .). But even so, I will try not to lose my (*%# when that happens because there is plenty of fun on the horizon.
All that said, this weekend is a JOSH-CALL one. Today we have lots of plans – a school event (Art Walk – should be cool!) and a birthday party. Plus the Cooper City Shred-A-Thon (drop off paper to shred, free!!!!). This last event is exciting to no one but me, but I have some tax records from the mid-oughts that are getting shredded today. Yay.
I promised to update you all on what was in the lovingly prepared birthday gift bag. The answer is above (x2) and also a fancy 6-month coffee subscription. LOVE the mug!! Not currently for sale. But maybe someday. Ha!
ALSO, my romper came (nice timing, Boden!) and I love it. Ignore my messy hair no makeup lewk and focus on the cute outfit.
It was a totally low key birthday (which I expected and was fine with – we have plenty of action coming plus we had a fancy dinner out last weekend). BUT I got some perfect gifts: my sister sent my a Washi Tape Shop gift card (!!!!), my parents sent me chocolate, my SIL sent me a book, and our nanny got me Lululemon leggings and a matching sports bra. Such lovely and thoughtful things. I fell asleep while watching Harry Potter 2 with the kids at 8:50pm. HAPPY 42.
I also went with A to get her hair cut in a thunderstorm, which if you know me is a true act of love.
Off to hopefully get in some Peloton yoga while the kids watch some TV and then DOCUMENT SHREDDING TIME. Happy Saturday . . .

Love the mug. Thoughtful gifts are doubly sweet – they make me happy and I know that the giver had so much satisfaction in picking something out that they knew I would like.
The romper is adorable! My Mom actually found a romper I wore back in the 90’s…and it still fits and I’ve been wearing it and feeling slightly ridiculous, but it’s SO comfortable. I guess the key to any fashion is to wait long enough and it will always cycle back into style?
Free shredding sounds delightful. Which reminds me I really should tackle some paper clutter/old documents soon.
Love the romper! Now I’m tempted to get one for myself.
The mug is so beautiful! All your birthday gifts sound lovely things to receive, it’s nice to be surrounded by people who know to pick gifts that you like.
The romper is really nice! casual yet chic.
Shredding is a tedious task,so your enthusiasm of someone else handling your shredding is definitely understandable. I saw some people in my office bring their papers for shredding from home and put in in the office shredding bin.
What a fabulous mug! So thoughtful too.
The romper looks great, but I need to know… where did you get the shoes? I love them!
Ooh they are an old trunk club purchase!!! Brand is Vince Camuto but guessing 2018 or older
I had same question! Super cute outfit!
The romper is fab, nice fun change from shorts and a tshirt. It’s so rarely shorts weather here so I just have 2 linen pairs I wear on holiday.
My husband was painting our dining room (a project started in January…looking forward to that being a functional space again) so I headed out in the woods with T on our bikes and we made a den (which sounds more adventurous than the Aldi den kit set up…), ate snacks and spent 3 hours under the trees, reading books and chatting. His attention span stuns me…we read a 200 page book!
Sadly, we came home to find my husband had run out of paint halfway through (scurrilous lies from the paint calculator), so we made him some Smitten Kitchen vegan chocolate cake as a thank you and will have a chill afternoon.
We have an academic year calendar on the kitchen door (and then the next six months on the other side – DoodleLove did a custom one for me) and it’s really helpful to see everything at once. It was helpful to see / acknowledge our summer weekends are getting full and we might need to start saying no to things.
Ooh whole year on the door! Very cool/useful.
Tell me more about this calendar! I googled Doodle Love and seems to be a British shop? Love the calendars! So you have 2- academic and summer? Each one page?
Yes, they are UK based. I had a 2021/22 academic year but wanted more writing space in the future so reached out to the designer and asked for the second half of the year and she did it super quickly. I colour code school schedule and my travel, and washi tape text anything that might move. I left a review with photos on her Etsy site so you can see it in action.
You look hot in that romper. One question though – how do you use the bathroom?
Your summer sounds BUSY. We have a week of vacation “up north” planned, and local camp for Dyl, but not much else, which is fine with me I think. I have some things I’d like to do, such as swim outside as much as possible and go for some longer walks with the dog on some trails that are not just A2. Trying not to think about all the work I have to do.
I gusss just … pull it down? Haha I’ll have to let everyone know how annoying it is.
I can’t tell if I’m going to be happy about or overwhelmed by the amount of travel …. Probably some of both
