Travel Work

PHL –> FLL & Back to Reality

July 5, 2022

Yesterday (after I survived a hilly 5 mile run with 3 tempo miles!), we marched in the little neighborhood parade! It was cute and all of the vibes were casual and positive — not political — which was a relief, honestly. It was about togetherness and celebration at the community level.

A fire truck led everyone down the street (~3 blocks – short parade!) and we landed at a little local playground.

G had a pretzel in one hand and a popsicle in the other so . . . she was happy.

Meanwhile, just in case anyone is concerned about A&C, I am here to reassure you that camp life appears to be pretty awesome.

A was in a talent show with 2 other girls (some kind of gymnastics/dance performance which is not something she has ever done before!)
C looking cute. His hair is going to be sooo looong by the end, oops.

Today we actually get a 10 minute Skype call with C, and Thursday with A! I’m excited to hear more details because the letters are . . . a bit short and not terribly informative. But cute 🙂

Call Week Begins!

I am headed into call tonight. Our typical call weeks run Tuesday – Monday, but I swapped a day so I get 8 fewer hours of call. I still have not found anyone interested in sharing call with me to split it up, so I am trying to work on making the rest of my life as easy as possible so that at least I can minimize other stressors.

This week the ways in which I am (hopefully) set up for success are:

  • Our nanny comes back today and I ordered groceries to arrive at our house around noon so she can do some meal prep.
  • I only have one kid at home, which should make bedtime easy!
  • I will have our nanny arrive later & help with bedtime at least a couple of nights (G is at camp all day and most days I can drop her off)
  • Josh is off this weekend and is ready to be in charge
  • I have no GME meetings or major obligations this week (unless something unexpected comes up – and if it does I will make every attempt to push to next week when I have more flexibility!)
  • I have been reading about stoicism which might help with my perspective.

Fingers crossed for an easy flight home!

Is everyone else back to work this week? I’m assuming there will be a lot of people on vac — which would actually be rather cozy and nice. I like going to work when it feels a bit sleepy and slowed down because everyone else is off! Especially when I know I will be off in the near future 🙂

G looks so happy (as do A & C which must make you so happy!)…I’m so glad you got some 1-on-1 time with G and were able to relax with your family for a while. It sounds like you’ve really set things up for success with this call week. Fingers crossed things go smoothly and enjoy that phone call with A & C later this week! What fun memories for them!!!

I am so surprised no one wants to split call with you. A week of call just sounds AWFUL. But I guess most just want to deal with long call and have call less often?

I am back at work today but it will be a light day since I think many of our clients will be out on vacation still. Tomorrow is shaping up to be a busier day w/ calls starting early in the day, though. Summers used to be a really quiet period for us and then the last 2 summers were so not typical w/ people not traveling due to covid or traveling less, but this summer is feeling a little more “normal” in terms of people being out of the office. But a lot is happening in financial markets so this might end up being a busier summer than usual due to the volatility.

I hope your flight home went well!! I’m glad you had a good parade experience. Makes me think of the tragedy in Chicago yesterday. 🙁

I haven’t done my big weekly grocery shopping INSIDE a store in literal YEARS, so I have been used to the curbside pick up life, even pre-panny, but having groceries delivered TO THE DOOR is so much more efficient. I wouldn’t have thought it would be because what’s so hard about letting someone put the bags in my trunk? But, it turns out, A LOT, apparently.

We are wrapping up our holiday – heading to Lisbon tomorrow for an early birthday treat for T (aquarium, hotel stay, and a buffet breakfast) and then heading home Thursday am. Trying to figure out my plane reading – I finished 5/5 books I brought. Lessons in Chemistry was the favourite. I have a work book, but bleh… I work Friday and head to work city for 24 hours Sunday night. Only 5 weeks til school starts – we’ve got uniforms, shoes that meet the absurd requirement, backpack, just need a pencil case.

Good luck with your call week!

I’m working this week and love it because I may reach inbox zero! I tend to enjoy working “vacation” weeks because I get a lot done and enjoy the quiet.

I’m glad you had a fun trip. Gs dress is ADORABLE. What did you think of the weather and terrain for running compared to MIA? Also, random question, but workout/running gear- what do you wear? With hot weather coming into MA I am debating the age old debate of tanks vs tees, capris vs shorts, and what about indoor workouts? My gear is outdated so would love to hear your favs…!

in PA the temps and humidity were much better but I am not used to hills 🙂 which is actually not great b/c they are good for training!

shorts + tanks all the way! currently loving the Vuori Dash shorts and a super light tank by Rabbit Running (or the old standard lulu ones)
