Little Adventure
Laura’s new book Tranquility By Tuesday comes out soon (and it’s a fun, useful read!!! and there are preorder bonuses!) and one of her rules in the book involves incorporating both big + little adventures. I admit I struggle with the big ones at times, but this was a lovely little one:
G has dance on Wednesdays and while I think she likes it while she’s in there, she tends to complain about going. I told her we can reassess after this year (because again – she’s not miserable in there, I can see on video!) and that on occasion I would take her out to dinner after class.
She’s been going over a month now and yesterday asked if we could go to dinner like I had promised. So we did! (I had to promise the other 2 solo dinners in the near future. When I asked C where he wanted to go he said “French Laundry” in the most nonchalant tone. LOLOL.)
Anyway, we had a lovely time until their toy vending machine did not dispense exactly what she wanted at the end, but whatever. It was pleasant for >90% which is probably reasonable for her age.
Winding Down / Ramping Up
I am getting really excited for my career transition which takes place in ~1.5 weeks. I think the handoff has gone pretty well. I have a couple of loose-end projects I need to tie up and one last long GME-related event to attend, but otherwise things are pretty much ready and on schedule.
(And THEN I need think about ramp up and the ways in which I will use the extra time to focus on my own endeavors while still preserving some extra time/flexibility for the kids! I need to fight my natural inclination to immediately fill every second with something.)
I currently find myself coming up with more ideas than the time allotted so I think the first step will be to create a timeline and prioritize.
On An Entirely Unrelated Note . . .
This serum came in my Allure Beauty Box this month and I am obsessed with it: the smell, the feel, the way it makes my skin feel, the whole package. Plus it retails for $72 so I feel like I got away with something (the entire Allure box is $24/month and this was full size, not a sample!). ANYWAY. This is not an affiliate link or anything like that I’ve just been continually impressed with the offerings each month and this is a new fave.

French Laundry….Gah! Where do kids get this stuff.
Yay! Little adventures for the win. 🙂 Last weekend we took Dyl and a friend to our local outdoor pool to go down the water slide for one last time this summer, and then went and got ice cream at Dairy Queen. Maybe this weekend I can take her to get lunch or something. Those types of outings are my favorites, honestly. Way moreso than a big trip!
Agree w OMDG. Small, low-pressure outings (sometimes spontaneous) are often the very best. I’m excited to read more about the big transition next month.
Is your username on Peloton SarahPedsDoc? In the on demand 10 min arms Peloton class I took today, Andy Speer went on a long diatribe about this member’s username and I was just wondering the whole time if it was you 🤣
Hahaha nope! It’s theSHUbox !! And I don’t think I have ever done a class live 🙂
I need some small adventures with my oldest. I have been meaning to take a day off to spend with him but maybe I should aim for a little adventure instead, like going to the local kids’ bookstore that has animals in it – like a couple of cats, a lizard, chinchillas, some birds, etc. It is the most amazing kids bookstore ever! I tell adults to visit it when they come to Minneapolis. A bunch of my friends went there when they flew in for my wedding. I’ve only been once in the last 5 years even though it’s probably 10 minutes away!
How does C know about French Laundry!!!
I was thinking that your change in schedule will maybe help with your weekends, too. You’ll have more time to spend how you choose so won’t feel as frustrated on the weekends maybe? For me, the challenge on the weekends is the lack of down/me time!
